Lalitavistara, an ancient Buddhist text, mentions the Vaidehi script. A significant transformation occurred in the northeastern alphabet in the latter half of the 7th century AD. This evolution is first evident in the inscriptions of Adityasena. The eastern variant of this transformed script subsequently developed into the Maithili script, which gained prominence in regions like Assam, Bengal, and Nepal. The earliest recorded epigraphic evidence of the Maithili script dates back to the 7th century AD. It is found in the inscriptions of Adityasena on the Mandar Hill Stone, located in Bounsi, Banka district, Bihar. These inscriptions, now preserved in the Baidyanath Temple of Deoghar, provide a crucial glimpse into the early development of this script. #mithila #मिथिलाश्री #maithili #mithilashree #mithilanchal

Maithili is the sweet and melodious language of Mithila, spoken mainly in Bihar and parts of Nepal. With roots in the Vedic era, it was once written in the Tirhuta script. Rich in literature and poetry, especially the works of Vidyapati, Maithili reflects deep emotions through its folk songs like Sama-Chakeva and Vivah Geet. Recognized in the 8th Schedule of the Indian Constitution, Maithili is lovingly called Mitthi Bhasha or Madhur Bhasha because of its soft tone, cultural warmth, and soulful expression—it’s not just a language, it’s the identity of Mithila. Devanagari didn’t replace Tirhuta because it was better. It replaced it because it was easier to standardize. Education systems, administration, and publishing all leaned towards Devanagari, and Tirhuta was slowly pushed out of daily use. When a script is not taught, not printed, and not supported, it fades, even if the language survives. . . Comment BOOK if you want the link. . . . . . Maithili, Bangla, and Assamese are often confused — but each has its own unique identity. Maithili’s traditional script is Tirhuta (Mithilakshar), an ancient writing system deeply rooted in Mithila’s history and culture. Bangla and Assamese, on the other hand, use the Bengali–Assamese (Eastern Nagari) script — closely related to each other, yet still carrying slight differences in pronunciation and usage. All three scripts belong to the same Brahmic family, which is why they may look similar at first glance. But their letter forms, writing styles, and linguistic traditions are distinct and meaningful in their own way. Today, Maithili is written in both Tirhuta and Devanagari , Bangla in Bengali script, and Assamese in its regional variant — yet each language proudly carries its own heritage and identity. Different scripts, different cultures — one rich linguistic legacy of Eastern India 🤍 #Maithili #Bangla #Assamese #Trending #FYP [ Maithili, Madhubani, Tirhuta script, Mithilakshar, Devanagari, Janakpur, Asam, cultural identity, Mithila, Assamese, Kolkata, language, Bihar, languages, Mithila culture, writing, Bangla, Bengal ]

✨ Maithili: The Eternal Language of Mithila ✨ 👑 Ancient Roots: One of the world’s oldest, Maithili preserves the pure essence of Sanskrit better than almost any modern tongue. Its history dates back to the 8th century, born from the sacred land of Raja Janak and Maa Sita. 🚩 ✍️ The Royal Script: Beyond just words, Maithili boasts its own majestic script, Mithilakshar (Tirhuta)—a direct descendant of Brahmi, predating most regional scripts. 🎶 The Sweetest Melody: Known globally as the most melodious language, its phonetics carry a natural sweetness that earned it a place in India’s 8th Schedule. 📚 Literary Giant: From the timeless verses of Vidyapati to its rich folk traditions, Maithili isn’t just a language; it’s a civilizational identity of intellectual and spiritual superiority. 🌟 #mithila #maithili #culture #bihar #language Vidyapati Mithilakshar CulturalHeritage ProudMaithil OldestLanguage Maithili, Bengali, Hindi Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, Kashmiri, Konkani, Manipuri, Nepali, Sanskrit, Sindhi, Santali, Bodo, and Dogri

Many people think Maithili and Bangla scripts are the same but that’s not true Both Maithili’s script (called Tirhuta or Mithilakshar) and the Bengali–Assamese script come from the same ancient family of Brahmic writing systems, which is why some letters may look similar at first glance. However, Maithili’s Tirhuta has its own unique characters and shapes that set it apart, and even though some letters resemble those in Bengali, their forms, usage, and orthographic rules are distinct Today, many people write Maithili in Devanagari, but Tirhuta is still actively used by many, from poets to priests, It remains an integral part of our heritage and reflects the richness and diversity of our Maithili language traditions 📝❤️ #Maithili #Bangla #Bengali #GoViral #Bihar [ Maithili, Madhubani, Tirhuta script, Mithilakshar, Devanagari, linguistic heritage, ancient scripts, cultural identity, Mithila, calcutta, Kolkata, language, Bihar, languages, Mithila culture, writing, Bangla, Bengali ]

Mithilakshar is the traditional script of the Mithila region. It is also known as Tirhuta script. This script has been used for centuries to write the Maithili language, which is spoken in parts of Bihar, Nepal, and nearby regions. In ancient times, Mithilakshar was widely used in religious texts, manuscripts, letters, and official records. Many important Hindu scriptures, philosophical writings, and cultural documents of Mithila were written in this script. It shows the rich intellectual and cultural history of the Mithila region. With time, the use of Mithilakshar decreased, and Devanagari script became more common for writing Maithili. Because of this change, many people today are not familiar with Mithilakshar. However, the script is an important part of Maithili identity and heritage. In recent years, there has been a growing effort to revive Mithilakshar. Scholars, students, and cultural activists are learning and teaching this script again. Mithilakshar has also been included in Unicode, which helps people use it on computers and mobile devices. Learning Mithilakshar is not only about writing; it is about preserving culture, history, and identity. By saving this script, we keep the soul of Maithili language alive for future generations. #mithila#mithilanchal #maithili #mithilakshar #language

Mithilakshar — also known as Tirhuta — is not just a script; it is the written soul of the Mithila civilization. For centuries, this alphasyllabic script was the indigenous writing system of the Maithili language, spoken by millions across the Mithila region of India and Nepal. Belonging to the ancient Brahmic family of scripts and closely related to Bengali, Assamese, and Odia writing systems, Mithilakshar evolved into its present form by around the 10th century, with inscriptions dating back to at least the 10th–13th centuries found in temples and historical sites across Mithila. For generations, it was used to compose literature, record genealogies (pañjī), and write ceremonial documents and invitations — reflecting its deep integration with cultural and social life. Despite this rich legacy, the script gradually declined during the 20th century as Devanagari became the dominant writing system for Maithili, pushing Mithilakshar into limited ceremonial and scholarly use. Today, most Maithili writing is done in Devanagari even though Mithilakshar remains its traditional native script and an important marker of regional identity. Encouragingly, revival efforts are underway. The script was encoded into Unicode in the 2010s, enabling digital fonts, typing tools, and educational resources that reconnect younger generations with their heritage. Cultural initiatives are now promoting its use in creative work, digital media, textiles, and education — proving that tradition and technology can grow together. Mithilakshar is more than letters on a page — it is identity, memory, and continuity. Preserving and promoting it is not about nostalgia; it is about safeguarding a living heritage that links language, culture, and history across centuries. #Tirhuta #Mithilakshar #Maithili #Trending #Viral [ Mithilakshar, Tirhuta Script, Maithili Heritage, Save Mithilakshar, Indigenous Script, Mithila Culture, Script Revival, Cultural Identity, Linguistic Roots, Traditional Writing, Maithili Language, Heritage Preservation, Unicode Tirhuta, Ancient Script, Mithila Pride ]
