🔋 WHAT CAUSES MITOCHONDRIAL DISEASE? 🪫 . In part 2 of this little mini series about mitochondria and mitochondrial disease, we’re chatting about how a change in the instructions of how to make a battery (mitochondria), can cause the batteries (mitochondria) to not work properly. The result? There isn’t enough energy produced for the body to function properly 🤔 . #mitochondria #mitochondrialdisease #mitochondrialhealth #mitochondrialdiseaseawareness #research #medical #medicine #genetics #genes #geneticdisease #raredisease #researchmanager #womeninstem #science

We all learned it in school—“mitochondria are the powerhouses of our cells”. But what does that actually mean? Our mitochondria generate the energy needed for every bodily function; so, when they’re damaged, our cells can’t perform optimally, leading to a cascade of health issues. I just recorded a whole podcast discussing the warning signs of mitochondrial dysfunction and the 10 natural strategies to restore and enhance mitochondrial health. If you’re ready to boost your energy, sharpen your focus, and slow the aging process, comment ‘238’ and I’ll send this episode to your DMs. #mitochondria #mitochondrialhealth #energyboost #brainfog #antiaging #cellularhealth #healthylifestyle #nutrition #wellness #functionalmedicine #longevity #naturalhealth #mitochondrialdisease #holistichealth #drjoshaxe #draxe #thedrjoshaxeshow

🔥Your Mitochondria Are the Key to Healing—Here’s How I Biohack Them Every Day… Mitochondria are at the center of cancer, chronic fatigue, and healing. Supporting them boosts energy, immune response, and cell regeneration. 🔬 Cancer & Mitochondrial Dysfunction: Cancer cells often switch to glycolysis (even with oxygen), a phenomenon known as the Warburg effect. → (Seyfried, Cancer as a Metabolic Disease, 2012) 🔬 Red Light Therapy Boosts ATP: Red light stimulates mitochondrial function by activating cytochrome c oxidase. → (Hamblin, BBA Clinical, 2016) 🔬 Ketosis Increases Mitochondrial Biogenesis: Ketogenic diets promote new mitochondria and increase energy efficiency. → (Bough et al., Epilepsia, 2006) ⚠️ DISCLAIMER: This is for educational purposes only and not a substitute for medical advice. Early molecular changes that begin the first steps of thyroid cancer growth. Thyroid cancer begins when certain cells in the thyroid gland develop genetic changes that disturb their normal control systems. These cells are usually part of the follicular layer that helps regulate metabolism through hormone production. The first shift often occurs when specific genes become altered, which changes how the cell responds to growth signals. These altered genes can cause the cell to divide more often than it should. As the cell multiplies, it passes the same faulty instructions to its daughter cells, creating a small group of abnormal cells inside the gland. Inside these early abnormal cells, signaling pathways begin to behave differently. Pathways such as MAPK and PI3K become more active than usual. Their increased activity pushes the cells to grow, ignore normal repair systems and resist signals that would normally tell them to stop dividing. Over time, this activity also changes how the cell handles energy and nutrients. These changes give the abnormal cells a survival advantage. As the group of altered cells grows, the surrounding tissue becomes slightly compressed. The immune system notices the unusual behavior, but the growing cells often develop ways to avoid detection. This early collection of genetic and signaling changes forms the first stage of thyroid cancer development before any visible lump appears.

If you’ve ever noticed those early signs of aging, it usually traces back to what is happening at a cellular level with your mitochondria. Think of these as the little power plants in your cells. When they start to decline, you end up with less energy and much slower cellular repair. VO2 max, resting metabolic rate, body composition, insulin sensitivity, and recovery data tell us how efficiently your mitochondria are actually working. Chronic stressors like poor sleep, inactivity, ultra processed foods, alcohol, and environmental toxins damage your mitochondria faster than time itself. The good news is that you can actually optimize your cellular health and slow down that visible aging by focusing on a few targeted lifestyle shifts. Strength training, Zone 2 cardio, HIIT, protein rich whole foods, and good sleep are the basics. Heat exposure like a sauna can trigger those important heat shock proteins, while cold plunges help improve your mitochondrial resistance. Even just cutting back on alcohol and processed foods goes a long way in lowering the oxidative stress on your body. Give your cells the right environment to thrive. #CellularHealth #Mitochondria #PreventativeMedicine #entrepreneur #Health

ENERGETIC MITOCHONDRIA Scientists used ultrasound (mechanical sound waves) to activate molecules that were sitting inside mitochondria. Once activated, those molecules produced oxidative stress that caused the cell to die. For decades we thought biology worked mostly through drugs, chemical reactions and receptor signaling. But studies like this show that cells and the mitochondria within them can also respond to sound waves, mechanical forces, electromagnetic energy, light and even thoughts and emotions. Stress doesn’t just live in your mind — it leaves a measurable signature in your DNA. At the ends of every chromosome are telomeres, microscopic buffers that protect genetic material during cell division. Each time a cell divides, these caps shorten. When they become critically short, the cell loses its ability to function and repair. Chronic stress accelerates this process. From a medical standpoint, this isn’t abstract. Prolonged activation of the stress response increases cortisol, inflammation, and oxidative damage — all of which signal cells to age faster. In high-stress states, telomere erosion speeds up. This is cellular wear and tear. But there is a powerful counterbalance — and it isn’t sleep. The state that reverses much of this damage is physiological calm paired with awareness. When the nervous system shifts out of fight-or-flight and into parasympathetic dominance, telomerase — the enzyme responsible for maintaining telomeres — increases its activity. Research has shown that sustained mindfulness, controlled breathing, gratitude, and present-moment awareness can significantly elevate telomerase levels. In some studies, increases of 20–30% have been observed in as little as a few months. This isn’t about doing nothing. It’s about sending a biochemical signal of safety to the body. When the brain perceives safety, repair pathways activate. Inflammation drops. Cellular maintenance resumes. Even brief daily practices — slow nasal breathing, body awareness, intentional stillness — can shift this internal environment. The signal is simple: you are not under threat. As a physician, I view this the same way I view tissue healing after surgery. The body repairs best when stress is controlled. Calm is not passive. It is an active biological state that allows DNA to preserve itself. You don’t age only because time passes. You age because your nervous system believes it’s under attack. And that belief can be changed. ✅Follow @drdavidabbasi for More Daily Medical Content & Health Tips! 🌴😷Schedule a consultation to see Dr. Abbasi as a patient in Delray Beach!
