My heart is in a million pieces. Yesterday we lost Killua unexpectedly. She had been struggling with a cough for a couple weeks, along with some clinical signs of bacterial infection. Her cough improved a lot after the course of antibiotics, but only 3 days later she had completely lost her appetite among being restless and generally exhausted. She had already been eating home cooked meals and all her favourite treats for the past two weeks, so we were really worried. We took her to the vet again to have scans done, we thought maybe the antibiotics had caused a lot of tummy upset and wanted to know how we could help her. It was cancer. Her lungs were completely filled with tumours. It is an absolute marvel that our little trooper had held on for so long, because her body was already shutting down. What we thought was just a checkup to help her appetite, ended up being her final day. She hid it so well, we were completely blindsided. Because she was a stray we didn’t know her exact age, our vet thinks she may have been around 10 years old. We had 3 years and 9 months with her, it wasn’t nearly enough time, it never is. Killua was the best dog, an absolute angel on earth. Her and Suki bonded so quickly, she was so gentle and calm with Suki right from the beginning, I don’t know how we got so lucky. We went on beautiful adventures, daily walks, and shared couch snuggles every night. She was our sweetheart goofball, and Suki’s protective big sister. She was so incredibly loved, the pain we are feeling is indescribable. It’s hard to be in the house looking at all her things. I’m so grateful that we had her in our lives, our perfect, beautiful girl. Rest in paradise my Killua. 💔
