Mattea Conforti is a Harvard College student, but she's also Becka Grove in Hulu's “The Testaments,” the sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale." It was during her biotech ethics course that she got the call telling her she'd landed the role. “I was crying because I was just so happy," she recalled. "Then I had to go back into my lecture and continue taking notes.” Acting since she was young, Mattea starred as “Matilda” on Broadway when she was 9. She's also played Young Anna in “Frozen” on Broadway, and performed the voice of Young Elsa in the “Frozen 2" movie. While on campus, she likes studying in the many coffee shops in Harvard Square, and looks forward to the Harvard-Yale game each year. Although she hasn’t yet declared a concentration, she's interested in psychology, government, and Theater, Dance & Media. “I’ve never been in such a motivating and passionate environment,” she says of Harvard. “There are people I would have never even dreamed of meeting without coming to school here. ‘The Odyssey’ is arguably the biggest film of Christopher Nolan’s career. It may also be the summer blockbuster the entertainment industry needs right now. Nolan’s been dreaming about a Homeric epic for decades, and it’s hard not to notice that Odysseus’ journey has haunted all of the movies he’s written and directed. Men recruited to make personal sacrifices for a greater cause (‘Batman Begins’, ‘Interstellar’, ‘Dunkirk’, ‘Tenet’, ‘Oppenheimer’); men yearning to return to their children (‘The Prestige’, ‘Inception’, ‘Interstellar’); narrative structures that fracture and loop through time (all his movies). For more than 20 years, Nolan carried his vision through Gotham, through outer space, through Los Alamos. Then, in 2023, ‘Oppenheimer’ grossed nearly $1 billion and won seven Oscars. “That gave me options,” says Nolan. “And what had never really been done is a cinematic telling of ‘The Odyssey’ with all of the capacity of a large-scale Hollywood studio production. It’s an odd gap in movie history.” It’s the first feature-length film shot entirely on IMAX, and the scale is truly awe-inspiring. For Matt Damon, filming The Odyssey was the most rewarding experience of his career. “Movies like this are not getting made anymore. To do this without a green screen … I don’t know anybody, with the exception of Chris, that’s even trying to do that.
