Regulates the nervous system Movement lowers baseline stress and calms fight-or-flight, reducing emotional reactivity and anxiety. 3. Improves executive function Exercise strengthens the prefrontal cortex, making it easier to start tasks, plan, and control impulses. 4. Releases mental restlessness ADHD brains carry excess energy, so movement gives it an outlet so the mind can settle. 5. Improves sleep quality Better sleep leads to better attention, mood, memory, and emotional control the next day. Exercise is less about fitness and more about brain regulation. No matter how difficult, my adhd brain cannot function optimally without making exercise a priority, especially when you choose to not medicate ADHD. #adhdtips #adhd #adhdtherapist #adhdcoach #fitness

When loved ones list tasks, responsibilities, or missed follow-through—often trying to help—it usually lands as shame, not support. Most adults with ADHD are already running an internal loop of: “Why didn’t I do this yet?” “What’s wrong with me?” “I should be further by now.” So when someone repeats it out loud, it doesn’t motivate. It reinforces disappointment we already feel toward ourselves. Support for ADHD isn’t more commentary. It’s curiosity, collaboration, and compassion. If you love someone with ADHD, ask: 👉 “How can I support you right now?” instead of 👉 “Why haven’t you done this yet?” #ADHD #ADHDAwareness #ADHDCoach #Neurodivergent #ExecutiveDysfunction

Let’s talk about it… Our 🧠 brains tend to thrive when routine is naturally created for us- think athletic schedules, rigorous academic schedules with support from parents or teachers, a busy corporate schedule with clear expectations, or the military. When we have too much unscheduled time or are expected to create our own structure or routines, total chaos ensues. This is the result of executive functioning skill challenges like task initiation, planning & prioritizing, working memory etc but also our brains need for novelty. Common pitfalls for us are forgetting the routine, getting bored, or a big one- trying to create something terribly unrealistic to start (hello perfectionism/ all or nothing thinking) Once we understand what we’re up against, though, we can start to build skills and find strategies to overcome. The key here is to adjust your expectations and start super small. Work to add one new element to your day reliably and have an alternate version for when that starts to get boring.
