Inputs are time and effort. “I sat at my desk for eight hours, I went to the gym five times this week.” They feel noble because you can say you worked hard, but you can burn an entire year “trying” and be no closer to anything that matters. Outputs are things produced. “I sent fifty emails, I published four posts, I recorded three podcasts.” It feels even better because you can count them, but you can ship a ton of work that has zero impact, motion, not momentum. Outcomes are real‑world results. “I closed three new clients, my article doubled leads, my new plan added twenty pounds to my bench.” Outcomes measure change; they tell you if what you did actually worked. The weakness of inputs and outputs is simple: you can max both out and still stay stuck, because you’re keeping score with hours and activity instead of impact.That’s why Chris Williamson says to tie your identity to outcomes. The biggest mistake I made for years was starting my day without a plan. I would wake up, grab my phone, scroll Instagram… start slow, no direction. I had “to-do’s” in my head, but no structure. So I’d jump from task to task, get distracted all day… and at the end of it, nothing actually moved forward. I felt busy. But I wasn’t productive. What changed everything for me was this: Every night before I sleep, I write down 3 priorities for the next day. And I make one thing very clear: Priority 1 gets done first. No exceptions. I don’t touch priority 2 until 1 is finished. On top of that: – I time block my day – I block distractions (I use the Opal app) – I schedule breaks on purpose (walks, workouts, stretching) Because your body needs to move… and your mind needs to reset to stay sharp. Now, even if I only finish 1 thing in a day… I know it was the thing that actually mattered and moves me forward. That’s the difference. Stop trying to do everything. Start executing what matters.
