Truth is, most people with a big chest just intuitively understand and get proper position. For you and I with a shorter rib cage and rolled shoulders we need to CREATE the proper position to grow the chest. It will feel very weird at first but I want you to overemphasize and exaggerate the position to LEARN how it should feel. Sit those arms on TOP of your lats and keep them there as you press. How to get your bench up FAST⬆️ 1️⃣ You’re not using your legs.
Power starts from the ground up. Push through the floor like you’re doing a leg extension without lifting your feet. Think of it as transferring energy from your legs through your core and into the bar—don’t leave strength on the floor. 2️⃣ You’re not locking your upper back.
Your press is only as strong as the foundation behind it. Tight lats, scapula locked—this is where your power comes from. If your upper back is loose, the bar will wobble and your shoulders end up doing all the work. 3️⃣ You’re not keeping the bar over your chest.
Letting it drift forward or back kills efficiency and weakens every rep. Keep it coming back over your mid-lower chest every rep—small adjustments make a huge difference in how much you can press. 4️⃣ You’re not locking in your three contact points.
Feet planted, glutes tight, upper back locked. Every rep starts before the bar even moves. If any of these points slip, you lose stability, power, and safety—make it automatic before you touch the bar. 5️⃣ You’re not engaging your chest or creating torque.
Flared elbows = shoulders doing all the work. Drive the bar with your chest and think of bending the bar—it locks in tension and keeps your shoulders protected. 6️⃣ You’re not controlling the negative.
