🧡✊🏾🧡✊🏾🧡 MY PEACE > DRAINING SOULS In this season, prioritize YOUR peace. As Black Breastfeeding Week, concludes tomorrow, I just wanted to remind all the beautiful black breastfeeding souls that what you’re doing is a miraculous gift and it matters! You don’t need anyone else’s blessing to do what you feel is best for your baby. I was blessed to breastfeed both my girls for two plus years. The pediatrician told me to do it until my oldest was 15 - in an effort to drive home the benefits. I got it! I’m grateful. My t-shirt may be a bit worn in this post, but my pride in belonging to this club never wavers. Celebrate any and all of the good you’re able to give your babies! Our baby @lukhanyo_lwezizwe is almost 3 months old! And Seeing that the first week of August is World Breastfeeding Week, I thought I'd share a snippet of me nursing him, in the interest of promoting, protecting and supporting the rights of women to breastfeed anywhere and at any time‼️🎉✊🏾 I'm thankful to @legendairymilk_sa for walking this journey with me because my baby deserves the best that I can give. The nutrients in breastmilk are unmatched by any other first food your baby can receive. Breastfeeding boosts brain development as well as baby's immune system to help them fight off sickness and disease - AND has health benefits for mom too! (Some cancers, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure are less common among women who breastfeed). Breastfeeding is a full-time job, am I right mamas!? 😍 Did you know the ancient Greeks believed that the Milky Way galaxy was formed by a swirl of the goddess Hera’s breastmilk (and that the breastmilk of a goddess could make a mortal invincible). . Though the debate about whether or not to breastfeed is very old, the health benefits cannot be denied. According to the World Health Organization, universal breastfeeding could save about 820,000 infant lives each year. In celebrating #worldbreastfeedingweek whether this journey has been hard or easy for you, I see you. ❤️ #nationalbreastfeedingmonth . . #breastfeed #breastfeedingmama #breastfeeding #momlife #breastmilk #pumpingmom #pumpingmama #exclusivepumping #exclusivelybreastfeeding #breastisbest #newmom #newmomlife #postpartumjourney #leche #liquidgold #milkdrunk #breastfeedingmom #lactation #lactationsupport

Today you are 4 months old ✨ In this time we have laughed, cried and shared the most amazing bond I haven’t never experienced with anyone else yet we have come to the time of which our breast feeding journey will come to a stop. When I first made this decision, I felt like I was letting her down. But in the days leading up to this moment, I knew, deep down, that I wasn’t keeping her fed now that her feeding demands had gone up. For me, the effort to maintain my milk supply lately is unbearable. Not only the amount of time but the mental toll it takes to only focus on milk all day everyday. The constant nursing, pumping, medications and stress started to turn my mental health into a land slide. Now before I continue I want to say “Breast is best” is a movement that served its purpose to encourage more breast feeding and it is amazing how it has helped normalised breast feeding in public, however it has also left women feeling broken, ashamed, overwhelmed and exhausted. Especially for those who were unable to nurse from day one. Now we are aware of the benefits of breast feeding it’s time to focus on better support for new mums, free of any judgment. The message sent to mums is “Don’t give up.” But what if you have to? For your own happiness and a fuller baby? One thing I haven’t forgotten throughout my motherhood journey is that I matter too, and it’s okay to make choices to benefit the both of us! So here is to our new chapter of new bonding experiences and “fed is best” approach. And before anyone feeds their opinion below, remember Breastmilk does not care for, nurture and bond with my baby… I do ❤️ #breast #breastfeeding #breastisbest #fedisbest #baby #newborn #4months #babygirl #little #me

Babies under 3 don’t need daycare or socialization — they need YOU. 🤍 From birth to age 3, babies’ brains are wiring over a million new connections every second! Those connections are built through touch, cuddles, eye contact, and consistent presence with a loving caregiver. That secure bond is what sets the stage for confidence, emotional regulation, and resilience later in life! But here’s what most people don’t know: the biggest formula companies in America have spent nearly $200 million lobbying against longer paid maternity leave. Why? Because when moms get to stay home, they breastfeed longer—and that threatens formula sales. So these corporations protect their profits by pushing babies into daycare earlier and nudging parents toward formula 😥 even when research shows infants under 3 don’t benefit from peer socialization‼️ Daycare before age 3 isn’t actually “beneficial” the way culture says — because toddlers and infants don’t need peer socialization yet‼️ What they truly need is the steady love of a mom or primary caregiver who can attune to their needs. Those everyday moments—feeding, rocking, soothing tears—are the real socialization that builds trust and healthy attachment! It doesn’t have to look perfect. It just has to be you, showing up with love❤️ Research to support these claims is in the comments below :) #SAHM #AttachmentParenting #Motherhood #HolisticMotherhood #BabiesNeedMamas #ExposeTheFormulaLobby #BreastisBest #SecureAttachment

“Couldn’t you just cover up when you feed here?” Right?? Wrong! We’ve all been there mamas! No! You don’t need to cover up and shouldn’t need to! If others are hungry, they eat. If others are thirsty, they drink. So baby is no different. 1. Most of the world does it- Americans are the outlier. In most cultures, babies sleep next to their parents for years. Solo sleep is more cultural than biological. 2. Breastfeeding moms often sleep more when they sleep with their baby. We rest better when our baby is where they’re supposed to be. 3. Fear dominates the conversation. Most messaging focuses on worst-case scenarios, not the reality that close contact has been linked to steadier breathing, heart rate and temperature regulation in infants. 4. Babies weren’t designed to sleep alone. For most of human history, babies slept next to their mothers for feeding, warmth and regulation. Not to mention, the cuddles, snuggles and love..🤍 #momsofinstagram #cosleep #breastisbest #breastfeedi

I’ve breastfed 4 babies. And I’ve had to pump extensively (at times, exclusively) with each one! Here are my top tips for making the most of pumping and keeping your supply raging! I intentionally am not talking about pump selection or schedule here—I’ll tackle those in other posts! But here are my strategies to rock your pumping time: 1. Aim for 2 let downs every time you pump. Most pumps have an expression mode and a let down mode. So do 2 min expression, 8-10 min let down, and repeat. I usually pumped 20-25 min for 2 x let downs. 2. Keep baby close during pumping. If that isn’t possible, keep a blanket they’ve used near you. Use your biology to your advantage! Your biology wants to smell and hear baby for a strong let down reflex. 3. Don’t stress! No matter why you’re having to pump, you’re doing a great job and you’ve got this! Don’t get caught in the, “this is supposed to be the most natural thing in the world but it isn’t coming naturally what’s wrong with meeeeeee!” mind trap. The more you can detach the act of pumping from your sense of self worth, the more easily it’s all gonna flow (literally and figuratively!). In Christian circles we talk about “not making an idol” of something. Which is essentially the same idea. Breastfeeding is not a reflection of your worth, your womanhood, or your essential goodness. Needing to pump doesn’t mean you’re falling short of salvation. We have a God for that! You are more than your milk. Pumping is an incredible tool to nourish your baby, so try to practice gratitude while you pump. Be grateful you have a pump, a place to do it, and supportive people around you. This makes a huge difference! If it isn’t working no matter what you do or it makes you so sad / mad that it makes it difficult to perform your duties as a mama, you have to reevaluate for your own sanity and the well-being of your baby. But it is possible to go from triple feeding to EBF with a solid pumping routine. Questions? Personal experiences to share? LC recs? Drop it below. NONE OF THIS IS MEDICAL ADVICE I AM SIMPLY SHARING WHAT WORKED FOR ME! Having a strong support team, including professional lactation support, is key. Happy milking!! 🍼

Time to spread the truth!!!! Breastfeeding does more than nourish your baby — it actually helps shape their facial development!!! 🌬️ The intense sucking motion required during breastfeeding encourages proper oral and facial muscle use. As the baby feeds, the tongue presses against the palate, helping to widen it into a natural U-shape while also supporting forward jaw growth. 👉🏽 This process plays an important role in healthy palate formation, jaw alignment, and airway development. 👉🏽 Bottle-feeding, on the other hand, requires much less effort from the tongue and facial muscles. Because of the more passive suction, it can sometimes contribute to a higher, narrower palate and less forward jaw development. ⤵️ Research in dental and orthodontic fields has linked breastfeeding with: • wider palate development• healthier jaw alignment• stronger facial muscles• improved nasal breathing• lower risk of malocclusion such as crossbite or overbite Some dentists even refer to breastfeeding as “nature’s first orthodontic treatment.” 🫶🏼 Feeding is never about judgment — every family does what works for them. But understanding how early oral development works helps us appreciate just how intelligently the body is designed. We need to spread this knowledge and information!!! BREAST IS BEST. for more reasons than we have ever known!! 🎧 Comment PODCAST below for an episode i found that does an amazing deep dive on the topic! #breastfeeding #formulafed #breastisbest #breastfeedingmom

Reminder I was a women’s studies major at Smith and this is still my reaction 🤔 No shade if you have to feed formula…this post really isn’t about that. It’s about this garbage piece published in the @nytimes telling women who want to breastfeed that they are somehow disempowered by the act of feeding their baby. First of all, breastfeeding IS a motherf*cking miracle. Second of all, don’t marry a loser. Reminder that breastmilk: ⏰ Changes hour to hour based on your baby’s needs 🦠 Responds to your baby’s saliva + exposures to tailor immune support 💪🏻 Contains antibodies, enzymes, hormones, growth factors, stem cells 🧠 Supports gut maturation, immune training, brain development, and metabolic health 👇🏻And breastfeeding lowers mom’s risk of breast & ovarian cancer, type 2 diabetes, and supports postpartum hormone signaling Lmk your thoughts and hit follow if this struck a nerve! And HI! I’m Becki Yoo, an RD using functional medicine to get to the root case and food as medicine to help you heal.
