Mijn psycholoog gaf me een vreemd advies tegen stress waar ik eerst om moest lachen. Tot het gewoon bleek te werken. Niet omdat ik het meteen serieus nam. Maar omdat mijn systeem al zo lang onder spanning stond dat rust eerst vreemd voelde. Dit zijn een paar dingen die mij echt hielpen: 1. Water voor de koffie Dat had ik nog nooit eerder gehoord. Maar mijn lichaam reageert minder heftig. Mijn hartslag blijft rustiger. Mijn hoofd wordt stiller. 2. Twee minuten tegen de muur staan Gewoon staan, rug tegen de muur. Schouders omlaag. Langzaam uitademen. Na een minuut of twee voel ik mijn lichaam herstellen. Mijn hoofd wordt stiller. Mijn lichaam laat los. 3. Niet diep inademen Juist langer uitademen. Na een paar keer voel ik mijn hartslag rustiger worden en spanning wegvloeien. 4. Vijf minuten lopen zonder telefoon Geen muziek. Geen meldingen. Alleen lopen. Vijf minuten is vaak al genoeg om weer ruimte te voelen in mijn hoofd. 5. Tien minuten niks oplossen Geen plannen. Geen denken. Geen lijstjes. Alleen zitten. Helderheid komt pas als het systeem eerst tot rust mag komen. Wat ik hiervan heb geleerd: hoog cortisol komt niet door te weinig discipline. Maar door een zenuwstelsel dat te lang in overlevingsstand heeft gestaan. Rust is geen luxe. Rust is herstel. Rust is hormonale therapie. Voor mij helpen mijn Day & Night Drops daarbij.
