Look at me, I actually filmed myself drawing! 💪 I thought I would give you a peek into my process of making digital collages in Procreate. It's actually quite easy thanks to the iOS "Lift Subject" feature. From the Photos or Preview app, long press on a subject in a photo to lift it from the background, then you can drag and drop it right into Procreate! Be warned, it doesn't always work, so you may have to manually cut out some subjects right in Procreate using the selection tool.
You can find lots of free-to-use stock photos from sites like @unsplash or @pexels.
I think it's the illustrated details that really bring these collages to life. Be sure to embrace whimsy and keep adding as much as you can think of!

WHIlana’s vibrant, large-scale paintings look at themes of performance, transgression, identity and power.
Beginning with drawing, the artist explores forms and colours through a process of digital collage, arriving at loose pictorial compositions which are then further resolved during the act of painting.
‘Paper Planes’ (2024), a new artwork by the artist, is featured in her exhibition ‘Ectopia’, currently on view at White Cube Paris until 27 July 2024.

DE#DesignInMotion 🦜 “I work with paper and digital collage,” says @maxomatic (Máximo Tuja). But, “most of the time, collage isn’t the best word to describe what I do.” What is? The Argentinian-born artist, based in Barcelona, tries again: “I’m an illustrator, an animator. I make fine art.” This piece – a commission about bird-watching for a @wsj article – exemplifies Máximo’s unique vision, self-taught but influenced by Warhol, Rauschenberg and Dadaism. “I work with pre-existing material that I process and compose to create something new in three dimensions, shifting its original meaning.” Máximo wants his animated collages to feel immersive, like virtual worlds, an effect that’s taken lots of practice with layering and pacing to achieve. “At first they were more abstract and experimental works, but over time I’ve been able to tell whole stories through them.”
