I’ve had so many parents ask me about the Happy Monkey Smoothies, and honestly, their marketing drives me mad. They’re placed on the bottom shelf — not a coincidence — because that’s eye level for toddlers. The colourful monkeys, the fun branding… it’s all designed to draw young kids in before the parents even get a chance to read the label. And the health claims look so reassuring: no added sugar, one portion of fruit, no sweeteners. But flip the carton around and you see the truth. It’s apple juice from concentrate — not blended whole fruit — which means the fibre has been stripped out. What’s left is essentially liquid sugar. They only give the nutritional info per 100ml which is extremely sneaky and clearly deliberate because they don’t want it to be obvious how much sugar is in an actual carton which 180ml! Clearly a kid is going to drink a whole carton, not just 100ml! When you do the maths, it’s 17 grams of sugar in one carton… over 4 teaspoons. That’s more than the entire recommended daily sugar intake for a toddler. Yet the branding makes parents believe they’re giving something healthy. This kind of marketing towards young kids really isn’t OK. We deserve transparent honest packaging, and our kids deserve better than liquid sugar dressed up as a healthy drink. What do you think of this? #sophiesswaps #cleverswaps #foodlabels

Bioengineered: Food that contains genetic material that has been modified through certain laboratory techniques and for which the modification could not be obtained through conventional breeding or found in nature. In essence, all “bioengineered” organisms are GMOs, but not the other way around. 🤢 It’s SO important to understand how to read food labels with all the garbage in our food these days. After what I just learned, I'm looking for this one word on meat labels that most people don't even know exists. As more and more bioengineered chicken and beef come to the grocery store, it's important to know what to look out for to make sure you're getting real, quality meat. You're not going to see them putting big scary words like "lab-grown" or "synthetic" on packaging. They're going to do everything they can to word it so that it doesn't seem like what it actually is. Instead, you'll see something that sounds almost natural. The word you need to look for is "cell-cultured." Yes, US legislators have already made it legal, and the USDA has already approved labels like "cell-cultivated chicken" and "cell-cultivated beef." This is their way of making lab-grown meat sound acceptable. But let's be clear: this is not real meat. This is meat grown in a bioreactor from animal cells and processed in a lab. It has never been part of a living, breathing animal. So the next time you're at the grocery store, read the labels carefully. Look for words like "cell-cultivated," "cell-based," or "made by growing animal cells." If you see any of these phrases, put it back. #FoodLabels #LabGrownMeat #GroceryShopping #HealthyEating #RealFood

Did you know?? Your ‘nitrate-free’ bacon isn’t nitrate-free at all… When you see celery powder or celery salt in the ingredients…that’s a natural source of nitrates So even “uncured” or “nitrate-free” bacon can still create nitrosamines when cooked at high heat — the same carcinogenic compound everyone’s trying to avoid Bake your bacon low and slow at 325°F to reduce nitrosamine formation So don’t worry, You can still have your bacon and eat it too 😘 🥓 #nitratefree #uncuredbacon #pasturedbacon #cleaneatingtips #foodlabels #nitrosamines #baconlover #toxinfree #sxmw

Think Your Wrap Is Healthy? Most supermarket wraps are hiding a long list of ultra-processed ingredients – from preservatives like calcium propionate to flour treatment agents like L-Cysteine (yep, sometimes derived from feathers or even hair!). They’re marketed as convenient and “light,” but they’re loaded with additives your body doesn’t need. Try brands like Crosta & Mollica – made with just a handful of real, recognisable ingredients. Simple. Honest. Delicious. Your wrap should nourish you, not preserve you. Want more better-for-you swaps your whole family will love?
