CHTravel softball is a wild.
We spend a month getting ready for a tournament. The gear gets packed like we’re moving out of the house for the weekend, the entry fee is more than my car payment and I convince myself that this is the weekend everything clicks.
Then the first inning happens and my team plays like they all just met each other in the parking lot.
That was… basically our weekend.
We took some absolute punches.
If there was a scoreboard mercy rule for coaches’ egos, we probably hit it.
But here’s the part that matters: These girls kept competing.
They kept showing up even when the day wasn’t going their way.
Effort was never the problem. Commitment to getting better was never the problem.
And our parents deserve their own paragraph.
These people don’t just sit in chairs and clap. They show up early to help set up, they stay late to break everything down, they haul tents, coolers, wagons, and enough snacks to feed a small village. They build the atmosphere that makes this team feel like something bigger than just a lineup card.
Yesterday also happened to be International Women’s Day, and I couldn’t be prouder to spend my weekends leading this group of young women.
They’re tough, they’re resilient, and they’re learning the kind of lessons this game only teaches the hard way.
This weekend didn’t go the way we wanted.
But the work continues, and this group is absolutely worth the investment.
