I thought the hardest part would be straight after surgery. That’s when everyone checks in.
That’s when there’s structure, appointments, reassurance.
That’s when you’re “allowed” to struggle. But my mental health didn’t dip then. It dipped 3–4 months later.
When the appointments became less frequent.
When people assumed I was fine because I was off crutches.
When life was meant to feel normal again… but didn’t. Progress felt slow.
The pain was still there.
The pressure to be “back to myself” was louder than ever. No one talks about that phase.
The quiet part of recovery.
When support fades but you’re still healing. If that’s where you are right now, you’re not weak.
You’re not dramatic.
You’re still recovering. And that’s okay 🤍 #injuryrecovery #mentalhealth #postop #rehabjourney #hipop

That sharp heel pain on your first step in the morning? That’s not random. That’s classic plantar fasciopathy. What’s happening inside your foot: The plantar fascia is a thick connective tissue band running from heel to toes. It supports the foot arch and absorbs load during walking. During sleep: • The ankle stays in a relaxed downward position • The fascia shortens slightly • Blood flow and tissue hydration reduce On your first step: • The shortened fascia is suddenly stretched • Microscopic collagen fiber strain occurs • Pain appears at the heel attachment This explains why: Morning pain is worst and improves after a few minutes of walking. Common risk factors: - Prolonged standing • Running or jumping sports • Excess body weight • Flat or high-arched feet • Tight calf muscles • Unsupportive footwear What research supports: - Plantar fascia–specific stretching reduces pain • Calf flexibility improves load distribution • Supportive footwear and insoles reduce heel stress • Night splints help maintain fascia length during sleep Simple steps that help: - Stretch foot and calf before standing • Wear supportive shoes indoors • Avoid barefoot walking on hard floors • Gradually manage activity load Good news: Most cases improve with consistent conservative care. Educational content only. Consult a physiotherapist for individual assessment.

being unable to move terrifies me. i think about it often in relation to aging, but what happens when you're young, seemingly able-bodied, but trapped in a different version of what used to be? a few doctors and other people tell me i shouldn't worry *because* of my age.. and that i can recover quicker, but isn't this how most chronic and life long pains begin? people in their 60s, 70s, 80s all have a story about that *one time* and they were never the same. it's scary to me. . . . . . #injuryrecovery #mobilitytraining #fitnessmotivation #gymmotıvatıon #gymgirls

Yesterday sucked. Here’s what I did to cope. Got some news I didn’t want to hear—recovery is going to take longer than I hoped. There’s frustration, sadness, the “why now?” spiral, that feeling of watching time pass while you stand still. But don’t stay there forever. Let yourself feel it—all of it. Don’t rush past it or pretend it doesn’t hurt. But set a boundary with it. Give yourself a window—an hour, an afternoon, a day—to sit in it, and then choose an endpoint. Get out of the house, change your environment, call someone, give your mind something else to hold onto, even if it feels forced. The grief will come back. The frustration will resurface. That’s part of it. But you don’t have to drown in it. Feel it, honor it, then move forward—one small step at a time. #injuryrecovery #mentalstrength #athletemindset #resilience #mindset

Day 26 after ACL reconstruction. Here are 5 things I wasn’t really prepared for once the pain started fading. 1: How confusing it is when your knee starts to feel normal. Not in a dramatic way. In small, convincing moments. Standing. Walking. Forgetting about it for a second. Your body feels capable again. But healing isn’t finished just because pain is gone. You realize recovery and feeling ready aren’t the same thing. 2: How much restraint it takes to protect your future self. You want to trust it. Push it. Move like before. But you can’t negotiate with biology. Doing less becomes the hardest and most important part. Patience stops being a choice. It becomes a responsibility. 3: How recovery quietly takes over your entire day. Not just during rehab sessions. But in how you sit. How you work. How long you stand. Every decision carries a small awareness in the background. Healing becomes something you organize your life around. 4: The mental fatigue of always thinking about it. The sharp pain fades. But the awareness stays. Every step. Every turn. Every adjustment. You realize how automatic movement used to be. And how conscious it has now become. 5: How much you learn by temporarily losing what was effortless. Things you never noticed suddenly matter. Stability. Control. Coordination. You realize how complex simple movement really is. And how easily it can be taken for granted. #aclrecovery #aclrehab #injuryrecovery #kneesurgery #rehabjourney

Injuries suck… missing upgrade season sucks worse 👇 If your gymnast is injured… Comment “TRP” to help her heal fully because I promise you she doesn’t want to miss upgrade season this summer. Not only is it the most fun part of being a gymnast… It’s when bonds between teammates are deepened. Memories are made. Pressure is off. And next season is determined. Upgrade season is a time to heal fully, work really freakin hard, and solidify where your gymnast stands for her upcoming competition season. It’s essential that there is no time wasted because of an injury that’s been plaguing her & you’re hoping “rest” will heal. *cough cough* it won’t. And if you don’t know me… Hi 👋 I’m Brittany @the.gymnastics.pt - former NCAA gymnast & Doctor of Physical Therapy gymnastics specialist for injury prevention and recovery. Glad you’re here & I cannot wait to help your gymnast heal so she can keep flipping and doing the sport she loves 🫶🏼 #gymnaststrong #injuryrecovery
