Day 28 - I think it’s gonna be a long long time 🥲 I’ve reached the point in my recovery where progress starts to feel slow. My knee is improving quickly, the pain is fading, and things are starting to feel more natural again. But I’m limited by the meniscus repair. I want to do more, but I have to stay patient and respect the process. These next few weeks are about refinement. Fully activating the quad. Gently strengthening the hamstring. Slowly and progressively transitioning toward full weight bearing. Right now I’m restricted to 50%, not because I’m incapable, but because healing takes time. This phase is about doing less, but doing everything better. Being present with every repetition. Rebuilding strength, control, and trust step by step. It’s starting to sink in how long this journey really is. Months and months of consistent effort, with progress happening at a snail’s pace. This is the part that tests you. Showing up without immediate rewards. Staying disciplined when nothing feels dramatic. Trusting that the small, invisible steps are laying the foundation for something strong and resilient. #meniscusrepair #kneerecovery #injuryrehab #recoveryjourney #trusttheprocess

These are some of the biggest mistakes I made in my first 2-3 months of ACL recovery 1. Comparing my recovery to others Everyone heals at their own pace so it’s not productive to compare your recovery to others. Trust your body and trust your own process. 2. Stopping icing too soon I let up on my icing too early and it hurt me. My swelling went up and I lost some flexion in my leg. Keep icing until the swelling is completeeely gone 3. Not paying attention to the scar I thought a scar looks pretty cool so I don’t care about getting rid of it. But you still need to massage the incision spots or you risk tightness and pain in those areas. I wish I paid more attention to that earlier! Hopefully these tips can be helpful if you’re in your first stages of ACL recovery. So if you’re in that post-op fog, here are 5 things I wish someone had told me early on: 1. The mental battle is just as tough as the physical one. 2. You won’t feel like yourself—and that’s okay. 3. Inflammation and pain are normal. Give yourself time. 4. Muscle loss happens fast, but strength comes back. 5. Your mindset will make or break your recovery. You don’t need to have it all figured out right now. You just need to take the next step. Most meniscus rehabs don’t fail because the athlete isn’t working hard… they fail because rehab ignores the most important signal: swelling. Swelling isn’t a nuisance, it’s feedback. It tells you when load exceeds tissue capacity, when progression is too fast, and when the meniscus isn’t tolerating the demands yet. Healing doesn’t follow a calendar… it follows biology and response to load. Here’s the shift 👇 • Swelling isn’t a setback → it’s a biological signal of load tolerance • If swelling increases = load exceeded tissue capacity • Quads shut down + ROM decreases when swelling is present • Time-based rehab rules (0-6 protection / 6-12 strength / 3-6 sport) miss the real issue • Healing phases can’t be rushed: – 0-3 months: fragile fibrocartilage – 3-6 months: collagen maturation – 6-12+ months: strength develops over time • Swelling should be your #1 rehab KPI (your dashboard gauge) • Too much swelling = overloaded • Little to none = balanced progression • Respect compressive forces + healing zones • Progress based on biology AND tissue response • Swelling management is constant… not just early stage Meniscus rehab = deceleration + force production. This is when it gets a little more exciting, as you can begin to progress away from the basic exercises - as long as you’ve managed the first few weeks properly! Here I will generally 1. Ensure there are no abnormalities with gait I.e no limping 2. Review the current exercises - to make sure they’re being done correctly (or done at all 👀) 3. Progress lower limb strength exercises and carefully introduce some load (if tolerating) 4. I always include some upper body work! A great time to make some gains here and give yourself something else to focus on. 5.
