👉 Long distance running was my exercise of choice. Training for and running marathons burned GOBS of calories…so “go hard or go home”, right? 🤦‍♀️ The idea of “just going for an easy walk” or a relaxing hike was ludicrous. Way better to spend that time running and getting the heart rate up!! 😫 Nevermind the fact that my back, knees, and feet were getting destroyed. Not to mention my entire mindset around the purpose of fitness was jaded. I have nothing against distance running if that’s your jam and you’re going about it in a balanced, healthy way. But if it’s just for the “calorie burn”, and your body is taking a beating, it’s probably time change your method. ✅ Be ok with slow, steady, sustainable and balanced. Stop thrashing your body with going all-in … or being completely sedentary. You want to be here, doing this with confidence for many, many years to come, right?! 🙋‍♀️ What’s YOUR story? Let’s talk about jeffing (run-walk intervals) 🏃‍♀️ Running has never been something that’s come naturally easy for me. Every time I’ve come back from injury, the journey feels harder both physically and mentally. I’ve recently started incorporating jeffing into my long runs and I absolutely love it. I’m running 4 minutes, walking 1 minute, and it’s been a complete game changer. Instead of thinking “I’ve still got 5 miles to go,” I now break it down into 5-minute chunks. It’s so much more manageable and helps me stay focused rather than overwhelmed by the distance ahead. Those 4 minutes of running fly by when I know a walk break is coming, and I actually look forward to my long runs again. If you’ve ever struggled with pacing, confidence, or coming back from injury, jeffing might be worth a try. There’s no right or wrong way to run, just the way that keeps you moving and enjoying it 💜 Have you ever tried jeffing before? Or are you curious to give it a go? I’d love to know how you find it! All the love, Ems ❤️ #jeffing #runwalkrepeat #runningjourney #injuryrecovery #runhappy #longrun #womensrunning #runnersofinstagram #perimenopauserunner #emsfitnesshub

Jeffing is the Answer 🧠💥 I’ve been using the Jeff Galloway run/walk method for years — aka Jeffing — but lately I’ve been toying with a wild idea: 🤔 What if I just ran slower instead? Wouldn’t that have the same effect? So last week, I tested it out. Ran the whole way at just under a 12-min pace (my usual jeffing average). The result? 🚍 Full ticket on the Struggle Bus. Legs heavy, heart rate high, vibes low. Fast forward to today: back to my tried-and-true Jeffing. Same average pace. But this time? ✅ Never tired ✅ Solid zone 2 heart rate ✅ Finished strong at 1:20 and 6.5 miles ✅ Could’ve kept going! So there you have it… scientific (okay, personal anecdotal) proof: 🎯 Jeffing works. Not just for beginners. Not just for recovery. But for anyone who wants to finish strong and actually enjoy the run. #jeffingftw #runwalkrun #runningwisdom #mastersrunner #zone2training #gallowaymethod #smartrunning #runningover60 #marathontraining #choosehappiness #belegendary

Long-distance running is as much a mental game as it is a physical one, but before you start eyeing a marathon, let’s get you through those first few miles without a literal breakdown. (From someone who has had plenty) Here are 10 tips to help you transition from “Why am I doing this?” to “Actually, I feel like a superhero.” 1. Get Fitted for Real Shoes Your old gym sneakers from 2021 are not “vintage” - they are a recipe for shin splints. Go to a dedicated running store and have them analyze your gait. Professional shoes are an investment in your knees, ankles, and overall sanity. 2. Embrace the “Run-Walk” Method Don’t let your ego tell you that walking is “cheating.” Using intervals (e.g., running for 3 minutes, walking for 1) helps build aerobic capacity without overtaxing your joints. It’s the smartest way to increase your time on feet. 3. Respect the 10% Rule To avoid overuse injuries, never increase your total weekly mileage by more than 10% from the previous week. Your heart and lungs often adapt faster than your tendons and ligaments; give your “hardware” time to catch up to your “software.” 4. Slow Down (Seriously) Most beginners run their “easy” runs way too fast. You should be able to hold a full conversation while running. If you’re gasping for air, you’re training for a sprint, not distance. Slowing down builds the mitochondrial density you need for the long haul. 5. Strength Training is Non-Negotiable Running is essentially a series of one-legged hops. If your glutes, core, and hips are weak, your form will collapse. Dedicate at least two days a week to basic strength movements like lunges, planks, and squats. YOUVE GOT THIS 🏃‍♀️✨🫶

the run/walk method explained. if you’re a beginner, read this. here’s the problem → the heart and lungs adapt fast. muscles, joints, and bones don’t. that gap is where injuries happen. walking closes the gap. how it works: → run 1 minute → walk 1 minute → repeat start with 5 rounds (10 min total) then 10 rounds then 15 that’s a real workout. that counts. why it works: → less stress on joints → recovery happens while moving → farther distance without breaking down → the next run doesn’t feel like punishment this method was created by olympian jeff galloway in the 1970s. research shows it can take 13 minutes off a marathon. elite runners still use it. walking mid-run isn’t failing. it’s how smart runners start. save this and let me know what you think. my wife is starting it this week. #runwithlks #runner #keepshowingup #runningtips #beginnerrunner
