Increasing your NEAT (non exercise) activity is one of easiest ways to aid in fat loss and/or just keeping maintenance calories high. Being active throughout your entire day is more impactful then short cardio sessions. These are just a few ways to increase your non exercise activity. One of the biggies is tracking your step count. When in calorie deficit our body naturally wants to slow down to adapt to lower calories and it is happening whether we realize it or not with less fidgeting, blinking, etc. Staying mindful of our movement will help counteract that adaptation and allow fat loss to continue. Apparently a Japanese company made an entire marketing campaign around this arbitrary number in the 1960s to promote their pedometer…..& since we as humans love black and white things and whole numbers, that number has stuck around since then! 🤯 So what is the magic number of steps you should be hitting per day? Most studies suggest that 7,000 steps/day is the sweet spot & is the point at which you get the most health benefits with the fewest steps required! Plus, it’s way more realistic of a goal for most people! But at the end of the day, something is always gonna be better than nothing. Hitting 2500 steps per day even has some health benefits according to the research! I’ll be honest, I usually average about 5,000 steps most days, higher on the 3 days I go into the office, and lower on the days I work from home…. 😔 My goal this year is to average 7,000 steps a day, and as you can see, the walking pad is convenient & super compact (& has wheels to move around), which is helping me to reach my goal! 🚶‍♀️ 🐶 🤰👧🏻 So if you see me on my walking pad while playing fetch with my dogs, watching tv, creating content for social media, doing the laundry/dishes or working out, you’ll know why. This is a pretty typical training day. Today I had to also take dogs to groomer and had grocery delivery so that added to my home chores for day. Instead of getting annoyed by cleaning up around house I choose to look at it as an opportunity to move my body and less time I’ll have to spend on walking pad. As it continues to warm up here, I’ll spend more time walking outside vs inside. This is a very attainable and sustainable spot for me. I’m not trying to lose fat so I don’t need to be out forcing myself to get a crazy high step count. If you ever do need to lose fat in future you better be able to increase your activity or you will find your calories having to drop even further. Your maintenance steps should be very comfortable and not something you should be stressing out how to fit in. That doesn’t mean being sedentary because movement is important for our bodies for a multitude of reasons. How do you get your steps in?? Do you take longer walks or break it into chunks or find sneaky ways with your chores/things you already need to do to add in more? ❤️SC . . . . . #stepcount #walkingpad #steps
