Why You Can’t Planche👇 I’ve worked with HUNDREDS of people and this is by far the BIGGEST issue I come across when teaching people the planche… The position of the pelvis influences EVERYTHING. It can interfere with core activation, lower body trajectory, and even your ability to protract. Without proper activation of posterior pelvic tilt, you may lose about 20-30% of your ability to protract due to the serratus anterior’s positioning. I’ve been doing calisthenics for 8 years, always struggled with the planche - mostly from immobile hips resulting in lack of engagement. Although there is a lot of great information out there that I have applied in my training - there is one area that is not emphasized enough. In my option it makes all the difference in the world, especially if you struggle with hip extension like myself. Aside from protraction , correct engagement plays a huge role in your planche progress. That area is overactive muscles It seems like all the tutorials out there focus on which muscles to strengthen but not so much on which muscles to loosen. This was a topic emphasized in my NASM course which is I really am grateful for. You can’t corrective form & posture without relaxing your overactive muscle, in my case it’s my hip flexors & adductors. I’ve spent a lot of time stretching & rolling them out in order to be able to finally reach hip extension. Pike push ups are a great tool for beginners to understand proper scapula control when it comes to depression and protraction, but its use case stops there.
