As summer training gets started up - teaching things in segments can be very helpful when trying to learn complex movements. I use that same concept w/ agility, speed work, lifting, etc. If you’re a sport coach - the same concepts can be applied to a lot of skills you’re working to build as well. When you have large groups - things like this forces everyone to be more focused - because like a dance routine - if one person is off - it’s noticeable. _________________________________________________ #strengthandconditioning #exercisescience #personaltrainer

Female athletes need exposure to exercises that address their unique physiology and specific deficiencies. 🚫Too often, extra conditioning gets used as punishment, and not as a performance tool. And for many female athletes, that just piles fatigue on top of systems that already need more strength, control, and better mechanics to stay healthy. If an athlete can’t control force, stabilize joints, or produce power…adding more conditioning just reinforces poor mechanics under fatigue. 🧱 BUILD THE FOUNDATION ⬇️ 🧱 Single-leg strength + posterior chain loading: Female athletes tend to rely more on quad-dominant strategies and can have less relative hip and posterior chain strength. Building true single-leg and posterior chain strength evens out imbalances and serves as a reliable prehab tool. 🔗 Deceleration training: Non-contact injuries (especially ACL tears) often happen when athletes can’t control force, not when they produce it. Female athletes need to be exposed to high forces in training BEFORE performance. 🧱 Landing mechanics: Improper landing mechanics puts more stress on tissues like the ACL. Training better landing positions directly reduces injury risk and improves force absorption efficiency. 🔗 Hip strength + control: Wider pelvis + different femoral angles in female athletes = greater demand on the hips for stability. Strong, stable hips are one of the biggest protectors of knee health in female athletes. 🧱 Single-leg hops + landings: Female athletes often show asymmetries in stability and force absorption side-to-side. Single-leg plyometrics train elasticity and control in positions that translate to the field. 🔗 Explosive training: A lot of female athletes are underexposed to true power work. Females tolerate shorter rest intervals better than males, leading to and more usage of aerobic energy systems if not monitored appropriately. That means less experience producing and absorbing force quickly. Improving rate of force development helps prepare athletes to handle high-intensity movements. Conditioning isn’t the problem…overusing it instead of addressing real needs is.

I train kids from every sport imaginable - they all train athletically. Sprints, jumps, plyometrics, full range of motion strength - progressed appropriately. If a 7-14 year old gets more athletic - they’ll get better at their sport. _________________________________________________ #strengthandconditioning #personaltrainer

⚾️ MED BALL WORK = GAME SPEED POWER 💥 ☑️Rotational slams. ☑️Shotput throws. ☑️Overhead power. 🔋 ☑️Ground force production. ☑️Core transfer. ☑️Explosiveness from every angle. Medicine ball training is one of the BEST ways to develop baseball athletes because it teaches the body how to PRODUCE and TRANSFER force through the entire kinetic chain. ⚡️ ✔️Pitching. ✔️Hitting. ✔️Rotational strength. ✔️Hip-to-core sequencing. ✔️Deceleration. ✔️Athletic explosiveness. 💣 Every variation in this session challenges the body differently — standing, kneeling, half-kneeling, laying flat, rotational, linear, vertical. That’s how you build REAL athletic carryover to the field. ⚾️🧠 The goal isn’t just lifting weights… The goal is creating stronger, faster, more explosive ATHLETES. 💯 13U boys putting in ELITE work. 💪🏼 ⚾️⛳️🏒🏈 Want sport-specific training? 🗣️ I build customized performance programs for baseball, golf, hockey, football, softball, and more based on the athlete’s age, goals, weaknesses, mobility, strength, and sport demands. 📲 DM me “ATHLETE” to train with me. #JFitELITEathlete #JFitELITE #JFit #ELITEathlete #baseballperformance

Dr Yuri Verkhoshansky - ‘the godfather of Plyometrics, demonstrates a sprint specific hamstring exercise back in the 1980’s. (credit: Jason S Greene) My journey with this Special Strength movement started 20 years ago when I saw it utilised by sprint coach Dave Lease, influenced by eastern block methods. My variation at the bottom is an attempt to utilise a ballistic movement targeting the hip hinge pattern and associated musculature. But why don’t you just use scissors and straight leg bounds? 🤔 As with most pure plyometrics the foot, ankle and lower leg are disproportionately loaded. The aim of this movement is to overload the posterior chain specifically, challenging eccentric RFD in the hamstrings. Want to learn more?
