One minute you’re motivated and hopeful. You’re making plans. You feel like maybe this time things will finally work. And then, almost out of nowhere, you’re overwhelmed… exhausted… done. Not lazy. Not dramatic. Just completely depleted. Living in survival mode looks exactly like that. One part of you is trying to build a better life, while another part of you is just trying to get through the day without shutting down. You can believe in your future and still feel like everything is too heavy right now. That’s not inconsistency. That’s a nervous system that’s been in “alert” for too long. So when things start to feel calm, your body waits for the next thing to go wrong. And underneath all the pushing and holding it together there’s a tired part of you that just wants to exhale without guilt. If you’ve been swinging between “I’ve got this” and “I can’t do this anymore,” you’re not failing. You’ve just been carrying too much for too long. Real healing often starts the moment you stop bracing and allow yourself to feel safe in small, quiet ways. Becoming Her isn’t about pushing harder. It’s about finally not having to survive your own life. #survivalmode #nervoussystemhealing #healingjourney #emotionalhealing #mentalglowup selftrust innerhealing burnoutrecovery womenhealing softlifeenergy becomingher selfworthjourney anxietyrecovery fromsurvivaltoaligned healingisnotlinear nervoussystemregulation mindsetshift womenempoweringwomen youarenotalone softreset

From the outside she looks fine. Behind closed doors she’s in survival mode. Things women in survival mode do when they’re alone (and never tell anyone about): • Sit in the car in the driveway to mentally prepare to go inside • Hide in the bathroom for “just a minute” of silence • Scroll Instagram hoping someone has the answer to why they feel so off • Doomscrolling to dissociate • Reheat the same coffee three times and still forget to drink it • Cry… then wipe their face and act normal • Drink wine just to take the edge off the day • Eat snacks standing in the kitchen like it doesn’t count • Stare into space because their brain is completely fried • Avoid texts because replying feels like too much • Google symptoms convinced something is wrong • Pick fights in their head they’ll never actually say out loud • Lay in bed exhausted but wired at the same time • Promise themselves tomorrow will be different • Order something online for a tiny hit of dopamine • Watch shows they’re not even paying attention to • Sit in total silence because noise feels overwhelming If this feels a little too relatable… you’re not lazy, dramatic, or “bad at coping.” You’re overstimulated. Overextended. Running on empty for way too long. Survival mode isn’t a personality… it’s a nervous system that never got a chance to come back down. Most women don’t even realize they’re stuck in it because they’re still showing up for everyone else. If you read this and thought, “okay wow… rude but accurate” 😅 you’re not alone. Comment RESET and I’ll send you 3 simple habits to calm your nervous system starting today. And share this with a woman who looks like she has it together… but is actually hanging on by a thread. 🤍 #survivalmode #survivalmodemom #momlife #stressedmom #highfunctioningwomen

It’s a trauma response—and a sign you’re still in survival mode. It’s your nervous system trying to feel safe. For many people, silence doesn’t feel calm. It feels uncomfortable. Because when it gets quiet, your thoughts get louder. Emotions you pushed away during the day start to come up. Your body finally has space to feel what it didn’t have time—or safety—to feel before. If you grew up in environments where emotions weren’t really seen, understood, or safe to express, your system adapted. It learned to stay slightly “on” all the time to cope. Background noise helps regulate that. It gives your brain something steady to focus on. It fills the silence so what’s inside doesn’t feel as intense. It softens the feeling of being alone with your thoughts. So what looks like “I just like noise to sleep” is often something deeper: your body doesn’t fully trust quiet yet. This is how invisible wounds show up. Not loud or obvious, but in everyday patterns that keep you from fully settling. The goal isn’t to force silence. It’s to build a sense of safety in your body—so quiet stops feeling uncomfortable and starts feeling like rest. I’VE ONLY EVER KNOWN SURVIVAL MODE Some people talk about peace like it’s normal. Like calm is something you wake up inside, not something you fight to feel for five quiet minutes. I’ve spent most of my life bracing for impact. Smiling while my mind stayed on high alert. Calling it strength… when really it was survival. And the hardest part isn’t the pain. It’s not knowing who I am without it. Not knowing how to live when all I’ve known is getting through the day. But a small part of me still hopes there’s more to life than just surviving. That one day I’ll feel safe in my own breath. And maybe… that day is closer than I think. If this felt personal, comment HEAL and I’ll send you something gentle to start your healing era. Comment BLIND to get an assessment I use for my private client to discover their leadership blind spots! Don’t try to manage performance. Learn to regulate pressure, yours and theirs. Because when a high performer walks into the room, they don’t just bring talent. They bring intensity. Speed. Standards. Nervous system activation. If you’re even slightly insecure as a leader, you’ll feel it. Not logically but biologically. Your body reads independence as loss of control. Your brain reads fast thinking as threat. So you tighten. You micromanage. You correct things that aren’t broken. And the very person who could elevate your team… shuts down or walks away. But here’s the uncomfortable truth on the other side. Many high performers are also running on stress hormones. They over-function. They don’t delegate. They don’t rest. They call it ambition, but often it’s survival mode. This is why high-talent environments feel exhausting. Everyone is competent. Few are regulated. Great leadership today is not about authority. It’s about nervous system capacity. The leader who can stay grounded around intensity… is the leader high performers will trust, collaborate with, and stay for. Because performance doesn’t grow in pressure. It grows in psychological safety. #LeadershipPerformance #SurvivalMode #highperformers

Knowing you carry so much potential within you, yet not having the energy to bring it to life that kind of ache is hard to explain. Sometimes it’s not laziness, it’s survival. A body that’s been through too much doesn’t always know how to rest, only how to stay alert. That’s what trauma does it keeps you in a constant state of holding on, even when all you want to do is grow. Mental health is not a luxury, it’s everything. Be gentle with yourself. Healing is not wasted time. And to anyone feeling this way, you are not alone. Your body doesn't just flip a switch from survival mode to safety. It doesn't know how to rest after spending 40 years convinced that slowing down equals danger. You try all the things. Breath work. Meditation. Yoga. Walks in nature. And your brain is like "cool, but what's the emergency we're preparing for?" Because your nervous system has been operating at full throttle for so long that calm feels wrong. Unsafe. Like you're forgetting something important or dropping the ball somewhere. This is what happens when you've been in fight or flight for decades. Your body literally forgot what baseline regulation feels like. It doesn't trust stillness. It doesn't recognize safety. It keeps scanning for the next threat even when there isn't one. Retraining your nervous system after a lifetime of survival mode takes time. You can't undo 40 years of conditioning in a weekend retreat or a few therapy sessions. Your body needs repetition. Proof. Evidence that it's actually safe to let go now. Some days you'll feel progress. Other days you'll be right back in activation wondering if anything is even working. Both are part of the process. You're not broken for struggling to relax. You're just teaching your body something it never learned before. And that takes patience, practice, and a whole lot of self-compassion. Keep going. Your nervous system is learning. 💛 Xo, Dr. B #nervoussystemregulation #survivalmode #burnoutrecovery #traumahealing #healingjourney
