Enzymes: The Superheroes of Biochemistry! ✨🔬 Enzymes are tiny but mighty organic molecules that act as catalysts, speeding up chemical reactions without being used up themselves. 🧩 How they work: Substrate (reactant) fits into the enzyme → forming the enzyme–substrate complex. Through the induced-fit model, the enzyme slightly changes shape to hug the substrate more closely. End result? The substrate is converted into products, and the enzyme is free to work again! 🔁 ⚡ Helpers (Co-factors): Sometimes enzymes need extra assistance from vitamins (like B6, B12) or minerals (Zn²⁺, Cu²⁺, Mn²⁺) to function properly. ⛔ Inhibition: Competitive: A “look-alike” molecule sneaks in and competes for the active site (blocking the real substrate). Non-competitive: A molecule binds elsewhere on the enzyme, changing its shape and shutting it down. 🌡️ Factors affecting enzyme activity: Temperature: Enzymes work best at ~37°C. Too cold = sluggish 🥶. Too hot = denatured and destroyed 🔥. pH: Each enzyme has its sweet spot! For many, it’s around pH 7. Too acidic or too alkaline → structure falls apart. 💡 Example: Peroxidase enzyme breaks down hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂). But if a competitive inhibitor like hydroxylamine shows up, it blocks the enzyme from working. ⚡ TL;DR: Enzymes = Life’s speed boosters. Without them, essential reactions in your body would be way too slow to keep you alive! ❤️ Follow for more biochemistry explained simply! 🧬 Like, Comment and Share this reel with your Friends and Colleagues 💟 #biochemistry #bio #instagram #biology #medical #biochemistryobsession #learning #knowledge #chemistry #medicine #reels #instagram #facebook #mbbs #enzyme #metabolism #medicine #memes #medicalstudent #viral

After a yearly physical presented some elevated AST and ALT liver enzymes, I hit the books and started doing a ton of research, and what I found was not only helpful in reversing these enzymes to normal levels, it was also very insightful and educational, so I wanted to share with you all. 👉 Elevated liver enzymes aren’t just numbers, they’re signals of inflammation, stress, and metabolic overload. 👉 I got serious about it. I dialed in my exercise, nutrition, cut out the stuff that was taxing my liver, prioritized hydration, sleep, sunlight, and reduced anything that spiked stress or inflammation. Slowly, those markers started dropping. The result? They dropped by 40%. Your body is unbelievably resilient when you give it what it needs. 👉 Elevated liver enzymes aren’t just numbers — they’re signals of inflammation, stress, and metabolic overload. This journey taught me that most “damage” isn’t permanent — it’s a request for better habits, consistent choices, and daily discipline. If I can reverse it, you can too. Your body keeps the score, but it also keeps the receipts for every positive change. ➡️ What’s one health change you’re focusing on right now? This journey taught me that most “damage” isn’t permanent — it’s a request for better habits, consistent choices, and daily discipline. 📌 Factors Affecting Enzyme Action Enzymes are biological catalysts that speed up chemical reactions in living cells. Their activity is affected by several factors: 1️⃣ Temperature Enzyme activity increases with temperature due to increased kinetic energy. Optimum temperature (in humans ≈ 37°C). Very high temperature causes denaturation (enzyme loses shape and function). 2️⃣ pH Each enzyme has an optimum pH. Example: Pepsin works best in acidic pH (~2). Trypsin works best in slightly alkaline pH (~8). Extreme pH changes the enzyme’s active site → decreases activity. 3️⃣ Substrate Concentration As substrate concentration increases, enzyme activity increases. After a certain point, enzymes become saturated → reaction rate becomes constant (Vmax). 4️⃣ Enzyme Concentration More enzyme molecules → more active sites → higher reaction rate (if substrate is not limiting). Follow Notecove for more last minutes revision short notes 5️⃣ Inhibitors Competitive inhibitors: Compete with substrate for active site. Non-competitive inhibitors: Bind elsewhere and change enzyme shape. 🎯 Quick Exam Revision Points ✔ High temperature and extreme pH cause denaturation. ✔ Enzymes are substrate-specific. ✔ Reaction rate increases until saturation point. ✔ Enzyme activity depends on optimal conditions. Keywords: Enzyme activity, temperature effect, pH effect, substrate concentration, enzyme concentration, inhibitors, denaturation #explore #biologytutor #biology #10th #explorepage #enzyme #studygram #studynotes
