Stress can trigger molecular changes inside the amygdala of the brain. Stress creates rapid molecular changes inside the amygdala, the brain region that processes fear, alertness and emotional reactions. When the body senses a stressful event, nerve pathways send fast signals to the amygdala. This activates cells that release chemical messengers such as glutamate. Glutamate makes nearby neurons fire more easily, raising the overall activity level of the region. At the same time, stress hormones released from the adrenal glands begin to reach the brain through the bloodstream. These hormones attach to receptors on amygdala cells and increase their sensitivity. Inside the neurons, the rise in stress hormones changes how certain genes are switched on or off. These shifts affect the production of proteins that help neurons form new connections. Some connections become stronger, while others weaken. This reshaping of synapses makes the amygdala more reactive to future stress. Calcium levels inside the cells also rise during this process. High calcium influences many internal pathways and can amplify the activity of the neuron. If stress continues for a long time, these molecular signals make the amygdala remain in a heightened state. The network becomes more excitable and more responsive to minor triggers. This early molecular shift forms the foundation for stronger emotional reactions during ongoing stress.

It's not just a behavioral pattern; it's a difference in neural architecture. Psychopathy involves deep, neurobiological abnormalities, especially in the Amygdala and Orbitofrontal Cortex. Reduced activity in these regions dulls responses to fear and impairs the ability to regulate impulse and recognize emotional cues. 🧠 #Psychopathy #Neurobiology #BrainFacts #Amygdala #OrbitofrontalCortex #Psychology #MentalHealthEducation #Neuroscience #ImpulseControl

Brain Unlocked: The LEGO Blueprint of Our Brain! 🧠 . . The human brain is a complex and intricate organ, often likened to a sophisticated LEGO model due to its modular structure and multifunctional components. Here’s a breakdown of its main parts and functions: 1. Major Regions of the Brain Cerebrum Structure: Largest part of the brain, divided into two hemispheres. Function: Responsible for higher functions such as thought, learning, and voluntary movement. Contains lobes: Frontal Lobe: Decision-making, problem-solving, and planning. Parietal Lobe: Sensory processing and spatial awareness. Temporal Lobe: Auditory processing and memory. Occipital Lobe: Visual processing. Cerebellum Function: Coordinates movement, balance, and motor learning. Brainstem Components: Midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata. Function: Controls basic life functions such as breathing, heart rate, and sleep. 2. Functional Systems Limbic System Components: Includes structures like the hippocampus and amygdala. Function: Involved in emotion, memory, and motivation. Basal Ganglia Function: Regulates movement and coordination, plays a role in habit formation. 3. Communication Pathways Neurons: The brain consists of billions of neurons that communicate through synapses, transmitting signals via neurotransmitters. Gray and White Matter: Gray Matter: Contains neuron cell bodies; involved in processing and cognition. White Matter: Composed of myelinated axons; facilitates communication between different brain regions. 4. Protective Structures Skull: Provides a hard protective casing. Meninges: Three layers of membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord. Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF): Cushions the brain and provides nutrients. . .

Human Brain – Structure & Functions 🧠⚡ The human brain is the control center of the body, responsible for thinking, memory, emotions, and coordination. It is mainly divided into three parts: Forebrain (Cerebrum, Thalamus, Hypothalamus): Controls intelligence, memory, thinking, emotions, and voluntary actions Midbrain: Acts as a relay center for visual and auditory signals Hindbrain (Cerebellum, Pons, Medulla): Controls balance, posture, breathing, and heartbeat Key Functions: Processes sensory information Controls voluntary and involuntary activities Maintains body balance and coordination Regulates vital functions like breathing and heart rate The brain works through neurons and neurotransmitters, making it one of the most complex organs in the human body. #HumanBrain #BrainStructure #BrainFunctions #Neuroscience #BiologyConcepts LearnBiology ScienceEducation Cerebrum Cerebellum Medulla BiologyStudents StudyBiology EducationReels SPClasses STEMEducation

Trauma triggers changes in both the structure and function of the brain, particularly in regions like the hippocampus - part of our brain central to memory processing, the pre-frontal cortex - part of our brain crucial to decision making and emotional regulation and the amygdala, which plays a critical role in processing emotions, particularly fear responses. But our brains possess the remarkable ability to adapt and heal and we can engage in practices to facilitate recovery and promote brain plasticity and to promote regulation of our nervous systems. Just to focus on the amygdala today, research shows that trauma leads to hyperactivity in and enlargement of our amygdala - which leads to heightened sense of danger and lower sense of safety. Engaging in practices such as mindfulness, gratitude, self-care and self-compassion can help us develop neural pathways associated with feelings of safety and calmness. And by consistently practicing these activities, we strengthen these neural pathways while promoting positive changes in our brain structure and function. We enhance and intensify our feelings of safety and calm and heal our brains leading to a reduction in amygdala hyperactivity and an improvement in nervous system regulation. #trauma #healing #meditation #mindfulness #gtratitude #mentalhealth #emotionalhealth #consistency #neuroscience #brainplasticity #amygdala

In a high-stakes survival scenario, the brain’s amygdala triggers an immediate “fight or flight” response, flooding the system with adrenaline. However, true survival often depends on the prefrontal cortex — the area responsible for executive function and complex decision-making. As seen in this footage, the warthog doesn’t just panic when the leopard attacks; it maintains enough cognitive control to steer the struggle toward the water, where a much larger predator, the crocodile, can create a distraction. This is a prime example of biological emotional intelligence. By suppressing the raw impulse to simply run, the animal is able to utilize its environment to neutralize a threat. This transition from instinctive panic to strategic movement is what allows a prey animal to escape a situation that appeared to be a guaranteed kill. It demonstrates that in nature, the ability to remain “composed” under extreme pressure is just as vital as physical strength or speed. We post @howhumanlifeworks 🧠
