🌤️🌈 Cool, calm, & 𝒃𝒆𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒚𝒕𝒊𝒄 🧘🏼‍♀️ Disclaimer: This video is for humor and educational purposes only. In Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), we never ignore dangerous behavior or signs of distress. Safety and emotional well-being always come first! The “ignore” strategy applies only to minor, attention-seeking behaviors—never to behaviors that could cause harm or signal that a child needs support. 💙

Applied Behavior Analysis isn’t just clinic rooms and early childhood autism intervention. 🌱✨ Yes, ABA has made a powerful impact in autism services—but the science of behavior is so much bigger. It’s about understanding why we do what we do and using evidence-based strategies to create meaningful change across the lifespan. ABA shows up in:• 👵 Gerontology & aging services• 💪 Health & fitness behavior change• 🧠 Mental health & habit formation• 🎯 Life coaching & performance• ⚖️ Criminal justice & rehabilitation• 🏫 Schools, organizations, leadership, and beyond If you’re studying behavior analysis or working toward your BCBA, you are not boxed into one path. Your skills in data, behavior change, systems, and reinforcement are transferable across industries. You don’t have to limit yourself to clinic-based autism roles if that’s not where your passion is. The science is flexible. Your career can be too. Behavior is everywhere. So are the opportunities. 🔥 #bcba #boardcertifiedbehavioranalyst #aba #abaoutsideautism #behavioranalysis

As a hands on BCBA, it be so hard for me to not jump in immediately to deescalate a behavior. However, I have learned that this is not even helpful & actually does more harm than good (obviously unless necessary, where my tech needs support). Allowing my techs to deescalate behaviors on their own, not only allows me to provide them w/ positive reinforcement, it also allows me to provide any feedback on areas they could touch up on, it allows me to see if there are pieces of the behavior plan that isn’t effective, and gives me peace of mind to know my techs/ clients are more likely to remain safe during sessions in my absence. This gives my techs confidence to respond to a behavior and not be hesitant, one second of hesitation can quickly result in a crisis situation that could’ve been avoided! #appliedbehavioranalysis #bcba #aba #rbt #fyp

Applied Behavior Analysis has come under close scrutiny (and rightfully so) by those in the autistic community. I chose to present here because I feel strongly about sharing my message with this audience. I really do feel hopeful that opening a dialogue between the world of autistic people, and autism service providers will lead to meaningful change! ❤️‍🩹 . . . #autism #autismawareness #autismacceptance #actuallyautistic #autisticadults #neurodivergent #aba #appliedbehavioranalysis #abai #specialeducation #asd #adhd #kindness #autistic #inclusion

👀Solely Obsessing over prompting eye contact in ABA sessions can be counterproductive because it overlooks the individual’s unique needs and preferences. It may overshadow other important goals and skills that need to be addressed, such as communication, social interaction, and functional abilities. Additionally, it can create undue stress and pressure for the individual, potentially leading to resistance or aversion to therapy sessions. It has also been found that just because a child is not providing eye contact does not mean that they are not attending. A more holistic approach that considers the whole person and their individual strengths and challenges is crucial for effective and ethical ABA therapy. #registeredbehaviortechnician #parenting #rbt #bcba #bcbasoftiktok #bcaba #behaviormanagement #behaviorteacher #rbtlife #fyp #abatherapy #abatherapist #abatherapyworks #psyd #childpsychology #childpsychologist

Although not all companies are the same, these are a few red flags to look out for from ABA providers: 🚩Non-compete contracts- Like Dr. Bailey said at FABA, read it twice! You DO NOT have to sign something that makes you feel uncomfortable, especially when it comes to the way you make a living! Negotiate with the company or simply say “No thank you I will pass!” 🚩Stimming reduction goals- If the company you work for or are trying to get hired with are adamant about these types of goals, turn the other way! Adios! Stimming reduction goals should only be implemented if they are a SAFETY concern to the client or disrupts the learning of the client. We do not want to take away something that feels good to the client if it is not impeding their learning or causing harm. 🚩Lack of program individualization: Every treatment plan/ goals should be tailored and individualized to the client’s needs! If there is a “bank” of goals where you need to choose from for your programs, run away from that company! Goals should never be in a cookie cutter format. Every individual has different needs and skills to work on, no client is the same. 🚩30-40 Billable hours: Only thing left to say here is, if you want a work/life balance, avoid burnout, and provide quality supervision to your clients….then this is a BIG 🙅🏻‍♀️! Your mental state comes FIRST before anything! And of course we had to include a song from La India in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month 😉🎤💃🏽! Share or tag any ABA professional that can benefit from this! 🫶🏼🫶🏼 @behaviorshorty @happybeehavior @aba.madeez . . #bcba #rbt #aba #abaprovider #abatherapy #appliedbehavioranalysis #analisisaplicadodelcomportamiento #bcbasofinstagram #abahumor #redflag #bcaba #bcbalife #abamadeez

So many interventions that use ABA methods are disguised these days. I’ve been caught out too! Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. The emphasis on routine can limit a child’s ability to adapt to new or unexpected situations out in the real world. Overemphasis on Compliance: ABA therapy has been criticised for its focus on compliance and “normalizing” behavior, which can undermine the child’s individuality and discourage self-expression. What to look out for… 🚩 a lack of individualized plans 🚩 overly rigid 🚩 punitive techniques 🚩 a focus solely on behavior control without addressing underlying needs 🚩 the aim to mask behaviours to conform or appear more neurotypical What to look for instead… ✅ emphasis on communication and social skills linked to the child’s wants and needs ✅ ongoing assessment and adaptation of individualised plans ✅ a caring and compassionate approach centred around the individual and their desires and needs ✅ focus on trust and relationship building ✅ child-centered focus ✅ Autism or neurodivergence affirming There is lots of talk about long standing and recommended methods such as TEACCH system and PECS and Attention Autism. All three i use to some degree in my classroom. I am constantly researching autism affirming approaches and speaking to autistic adults to learn and do the best I can by my learners. My method is to not be afraid to make adaptations, if something feels like the 🚩 , then change it, adapt it, individualise it, make it child-centered and autism affirming- and if you can’t …. DITCH IT. #specialeducationteacher #abatherapy #autismacceptance #autismmom

When a child experiences challenging behavior in therapy, a good therapist will respond with empathy, validate the child’s feelings, and maintain a calm and objective demeanor. They may use techniques like active listening, positive language, and de-escalation strategies to address the situation. Here’s our therapist meeting the child where he is. She is calm, validating his needs and giving him time to express himself. When a child experiences challenging behavior in therapy, a good therapist will respond with empathy. Here’s a more detailed look at how a good therapist might respond: Empathy and Validation Calm and Objective Communication Redirect the child’s attention to the activity they are working on when the time is right ! There are so many ways to help a young child dealing with stress or trauma. Getting down, leaning in, just as our therapist is doing looking into their eyes, and being deeply attuned can be the gentle touch that they need. Do contact us if you need any training or support to manage challenging behaviours. #ableuk #ableukdubai #childdevelopment #occupationaltherapy #sensoryintegrationtherapy #overwhelmedchildren #tantrums #meltdowns #aba #ableukfamily

Practicing with compassion means demonstrating patience and modeling calmness while treating individuals with respect and dignity. It is important to train clinicians on how to respond proactively to crisis situations in order to ensure safety and supportive environments. Lack of training can create hazardous situations for both clinicians and children, resulting in poor practices. This often contributes to the negative perceptions of the application of Behavior Analysis in children on the Autism Spectrum. Severe behavior can be influenced by many factors beyond the scope of ABA. Therefore, coordinating care with other professionals and adopting a multidisciplinary approach is essential. However, one thing we can control during therapy is our method, ensuring it is rooted in compassion and understanding. 🚨Disclaimer: This video has been shared with the consent of the child’s parent for training purposes.
