Most of us spend our day standing, sitting, teaching, driving… all in a little bit of lumbar extension. Extension can narrow the space where the nerve roots exit. If something is irritated, that compression can trigger symptoms down the leg. When you flex your lumbar spine, you create a little more space. You take pressure off the nerve. The glutes and deep hip rotators soften. The pelvis shifts out of that constant anterior tilt. And doing it with your feet on the wall makes a difference. You’re supported by the floor and the wall at the same time. That support gives your nervous system a sense of safety. When your system feels safe, it stops gripping.
