Drop your other tips in the comments! I’ve had a ton of people reach out and ask for advice for their first backpacking trip and I know I have lots of experienced friends with good tips to help people enjoy their first trip. It can feel really scary the first couple times, but it does get easier. You’ll get a better idea of what stuff you actually need, and you’ll get more confident in all the skills you need to know. But first you gotta go out and do it! There’s still some warm weather left, so if you’ve been wanting to try backpacking, borrow or rent some gear and go! #backpacking #camping #beginnerbackpacker #hiking #getoutside

I wish I learned these tricks earlier 🤔👇🏼 Save this for future reference! Learning how to pack a backpack more efficiently is something that takes a lot of time, so I’m hoping to shorten some of that down for you!! All of these hacks have allowed both of us to downsize our packs and not have tons of stuff hanging on the outside. It’s amazing what a little rearranging can do! What I really want to emphasize is that backpacking is a huuuuuge learning experience. We learn something new every single time. And it’s okay to not do it all right the first (or 10th time). What matters is that you’re enjoying your time out there and that you find ways to make it easier on yourself. For a full packing guide and what we bring, we just posted a YouTube video with an entire breakdown of our gear and how we pack it! @the_adventureaddicts on YouTube Do you have any other tips to downsize your pack? (Also I don’t know why I filmed this so high and left everything down at the bottom of the screen where you can barely see it. Will do better next time 😅) #backpacking #backpackinglife #hikinggear #campinglife #hikersofinstagram

How to Pack Your Tent for Backpacking In this video, we discuss the proper way to pack a tent in your backpack. We explain how to remove the tent poles, unroll the tent, and pack the rain fly and tent body separately. We also suggest placing the tent on top of your pack and the poles and stakes in the side and front pockets for easy access. By packing the tent in this more organized way, you can ensure it stays compact and accessible when you reach your campsite. #backpacking #camping #tentpacking #outdoors #howto #backpackingtips #hiking #hikingtips #tent #packingtips #appalachiantrail #hikersofinstagram #thruhike #trekking #marionoutdoors #adventure #ultralightbackpacking #backpackinggear

Items I will not travel without💭(ad) After a year of going on backpacking trips… I can easily say these are three things. I love to have with me. A neck pillow… specifically this convertible Repleto jacket from @cotopaxi , because it doubles as a down jacket as well! It’s comfortable, convenient, and easy to travel with which I love. A mobile charger. Ask me how I got through three other international trips without a mobile charger I don’t know, but I swear my phone dies almost immediately and so this is a no-brainer. Last is a physical book… Call me crazy but I love having a book with me and feel like it really grounds me to the place that I am in. I also think you look way cooler These are three things that I personally love to have and can’t live without… What are your travel necessities? #travel #backpacking #traveltips

Beginner hiking mistakes I still see everywhere 🥾 1. Wearing brand new shoes on a long hike (instant blisters) 2. Packing way too much “just in case” gear 3. Not bringing enough water or electrolytes 4. Starting too late in the day 5. No offline map downloaded 6. Only checking distance, not elevation gain 7. Wearing cotton (especially socks) 8. Not eating enough throughout the hike 9. Ignoring weather changes 10. Choosing a hike that’s too ambitious too soon 11. Not telling anyone where you’re going 12. Carrying gear you don’t know how to use 13. Bad backpack fit (shoulders doing all the work) 14. Taking too few breaks… or way too many too early 15. Hiking too fast at the start 16. Not protecting from the sun properly 17. No headlamp “because I’ll be back before dark” 18. Not refilling water when you have the chance 19. Not checking recent trail conditions 20. Wearing the wrong layers for the conditions 21. Not testing gear before a big hike Save someone from learning this the hard way—tag a friend 👇🏼

first time backpacking? here’s the packing system that keeps your gear balanced, organized, and pain-free 👇 ✅ Bottom of the pack = soft stuff (sleeping bag, pad, puffy, pillow) ✅ Middle, tight to your back = heavy items (hydration bladder, jetboil, tent, fuel) ✅ Top = lighter gear + food ✅ Lid & side pockets = tech, camp shoes, toiletries, trash, first aid ✅ Outside = tripod, chair, trekking poles—light but accessible ✅ Hip belt = snacks, emergency gear, paper map 🎯 Final test: Your pack should stand upright = balanced and trail-ready 💬 Comment “GEAR LIST” and I’ll DM you our complete beginner-friendly backpacking checklist! #HowToPackYourBackpack #BackpackingEssentials #OutdoorAdventure #PackingTips #LeaveNoTrace #BackpackingGear

Consolidate your Backpacking Cook Kit In this video, I talk about the essential items I keep in my backpacking cook kit. This includes a Toaks titanium 550 pot, a mini bic lighter, a neck gaiter, a way to hold my stove, a 100 gram fuel canister, a long-handled spoon, and a Trailbrush. I explain how this compact setup allows me to boil water for coffee and hot meals while saving weight and space. I also discuss the benefits of using a 550 ml pot and the fuel efficiency of different stove options, especially for trips on the Appalachian Trail. #backpacking #hiking #backpackingtips #hikingtips #camping #cookkit #Outdoors #ultralightbackpacking #trekking #NeckGaiter #FuelCanister #howto #LongHandledSpoon #trailbrush #FuelEfficiency #AppalachianTrail #WeightSaving #baseweight #Backpackinggear #marionoutdoors #hikersofinstagram

Share this with a hiker (or soon to be hiker!) Most beginners waste money on gadgets that don’t matter, or think they are saving money on something when it will often cost them in the long run. I’m here to help fix that, and providing you with 5 things that give you massive returns in comfort, safety, and longevity. All recommendations are my own and none of this is sponsored. 1. Offline maps > “My phone will figure it out” Free substitute: Phone network + memory Why it fails: Most trails lose signal. Better: Use apps that work offline so you always know where you are. 2. Smart layering > “Only one jacket” Often misused: Cotton or random winter coat Why it fails: Cotton holds moisture, kills warmth, chills you. Better: A system that manages moisture AND warms even when damp. 3. Flashlight/Headlamp > “Phone flashlight” Free substitute: Your iPhone light Why it fails: Short battery life, one tap and your phone dies. Better: Dedicated lighting = longer runtime + better trail vision 4. Trail runners > “Old sneakers or cheap boots” Free substitute: What you wear today Why it fails: No grip, no protection, high blister / slip risk. Better: Traction, foot protection, and lighter weight. 5. Trekking poles > “Hands only + ego” Free substitute: No poles / old ski poles Why it fails: You manage load badly downhill, fatigue faster. Better: Poles offload knees and improve balance Be sure to follow @outdoorwiseliving for more hiking tips! #hiking101 #hikingtips #hikinggear

Packing List 👇🏼 Save this for your next backpacking trip! This packing list and type of packing is specific to a one-night desert trip in the warmer months. We brought minimal clothing, didn’t need a bear canister, and our main focus was carrying ample water! I will say, every time we pack, it’s a little different! It all depends on the weight, amount of gear, and type of trail we’re doing. Here’s everything we brought and where it went 👇🏼 Backpack: @ospreypacks Aura 65L (women’s) and Atmos 65L (men’s) Bottom pocket: • @rei mag 15 sleeping bags (likely too warm for this trip, but we made them work) • @expedusa ultra sleeping pads • @nemoequipment fillo pillow (Zoe) • @expedusa mega pillow (Kelby) Main Pocket: • @jetboil • @seatosummit Alpha Pot • fuel • clothing • bathroom kit: wag bags, toilet paper, dry bags for carrying them out, hand sanitizer • food • first aid kits • @gsioutdoors mug Side Pockets: • toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, bug spray, sunscreen • emergency bivy Brain: • @sawyerproducts squeeze water filter • @cnocoutdoors water bags • @hydrapak water bottles • @anker_official power bank • extra snacks • cards Hip Pockets • chapstick • snacks • @garminoutdoor inReach mini 2 Outside of Pack: • @rei traverse trekking poles • @teva universal camp shoes • @nalgene • @bigagnes_ copper spur tent Let us know if you have any questions!! #backpacking #backpackinggear #backpackinglife #campinglife #hikersofinstagram
