Part two of this week’s rotation exercise. Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and close your eyes. Without moving your body, picture yourself repeating yesterday’s movement. See the room in your mind the same way you saw it with your eyes open. When you reach the point where you stopped yesterday, keep going — just in your imagination. Notice what you see. Then slowly rewind the scene in your mind until you return to the starting point. Tomorrow we’ll see what happens when we try the movement again. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #howfarcanyourotate

When we do activations in a clinical setting, we always test first. Test → activate → retest. It helps us see if something actually changed. That’s harder to do on your own, but this rotation test is simple. Sit in a chair. Cross one leg over the other. Open your hip. Now try to fold forward. Did you get stuck, or could you fold easily? Tomorrow we’ll do the activations and see if that changes. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #rotationtest

Last week I meant to teach a mental exercise that I use a lot… but I didn’t like the video I recorded and never went back to re-film it. So we’re doing it this week. And we’re going to break it down into small pieces so you can really experience it. This exercise creates a surprising amount of rotation in your body, which I love. If rotation hasn’t felt very accessible to you in the past, this can help you start to find it. But it’s also something more. It’s a visualization exercise that shows how our thoughts can limit our physiology… and how, when we allow ourselves to imagine beyond what we think we can do, our bodies often discover abilities that were there all along. It’s going to be a fun ride this week. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #visualization

Most people don’t think about rotation until they need it. Like when you’re driving and trying to see if a car is coming up behind you. Years ago I had a client who would text me after sessions and say, “It’s a good day to be driving in South Carolina — I can actually turn my head and see traffic.” This week we’re working on rotation. First we’ll test it. Then we’ll activate it. You might be surprised by what your body has been missing. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #nervoussystemreset

Now repeat step one. Feet shoulder-width apart. Arm extended. Pointer finger leading the way. Rotate slowly and follow your finger with your eyes. How far can you go this time? When I repeated the movement, I was able to rotate several feet farther than my first attempt. Nothing in my body changed in those few minutes. But my brain had already practiced going further. Sometimes our limits aren’t in the body — they’re in the story we believe about what the body can do. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated

This is what happens when your body and your brain start working together. You don’t become someone new— you just finally feel safe being who you already are. More grounded. More secure. To begin working on rotation, we start with a small but important spot between the ribs. Draw a line from your belly button to your bottom rib at about a 45° angle. Find the midpoint. Now measure halfway again so your bottom finger sits on the rib and your top finger lands in the rib space. That space is what I call the rib hole. Work the tissue gently — small movements, small circles. Sometimes the smallest activations create the biggest changes. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #hiprotation

Thank you @agingbetterrd for taking the time to talk about breath, putting the health back in healthcare, and self-empowerment! This exercise I reference is based on the work of Hugh Critchley and is known as the internal self assessment. He is not from Scandinavia as I said, brain misfired on that one. 🙃 I learned this practice during the Body by Breath training with Jill Miller, and added in the breath lengthening piece to the fourth step. You can give it a try yourself: ❤️Sense your heartbeats without touch ✋🏽Sense your heartbeats with hands on your body ⏸️ Pause seeking heartbeats for 2 minutes, coming back to the breath or moving if that is what the body craves ✋🏽😮‍💨Sense your heartbeats with hands on your body again, try to inhale for 10 heartbeats and exhale for 10 I know it can feel HARD but with practice, lengthening the inhale and exhale to match a set of heartbeats becomes easier. 💪🏼

Why Gentle Movement Heals For a dysregulated nervous system, intensity isn’t always supportive. Gentle movement — rocking, swaying, stretching — allows the body to reconnect without activating survival responses. This kind of movement restores trust between the body and brain. It says: I can move and still be safe. Healing honours pace, not pressure. ✨ This philosophy guides my 21-Day Nervous System Reset — supporting movement that feels nourishing, not demanding. ✨ I’m here to support you on this magical journey of remembering who you really are, deeply loving and honouring yourself and manifesting your wildest dreams. With all my love, Soph 🤍 #GentleMovement #SomaticHealing #NervousSystemCare #EmbodiedSafety #TraumaSensitive

Inhale Lift the chest and gently look toward the ceiling, allowing the shoulders to open. Exhale Slowly bow forward, letting the arms move away from the back as the torso folds. Keep the knees bent at all times to protect the lower back and allow the spine to move freely. Move with the rhythm of your breath: • Inhale – rise and open the chest • Exhale – bow forward Let the movement be slow and attentive. Listen to the range of motion available today. You may gradually: • Increase the depth of the fold • Increase the tempo of the movement • Or keep the range small for a gentle release Follow the pace that feels supportive for your body. When you listen through breath, movement, and awareness the nervous system reorganizes. The body remembers how to return to balance. When the body feels supported, the nervous system reorganizes. The elevated mind becomes available again. This content is for educational purposes only. Please consult your healthcare provider before starting any new movement or breath practice. You are responsible for your own body and well-being. #somaticmovement #traumainformedmovement #embodimentpractice #mindbodyconnection #vagusnerve

Most people think they’re breathing correctly. They’re not. So today in class, I did something different. Instead of telling people to “put your hand on your belly,” I put a yoga block on it. Not to keep it balanced. Not to do it perfectly. Just to give the body a real, physical cue: 👉 Are you actually sending breath into your belly… or just thinking about it? And what happened? A lot of people realized they weren’t breathing at all. They were pausing. Holding. Controlling. Your body doesn’t need more instructions. It needs something it can feel. That’s the work. — If you feel like: • you’re always overwhelmed • your body feels tight or shut down • or you can’t seem to “just relax” no matter what you try I work with people one-on-one to reconnect their brain and body so things actually start to shift. 👉 Message me “RESET” and I’ll send you how to get started. #beactivated #douglasheel #activateandelevate #douglasheelbeactivated #bellybreathingiskey
