The Language of Computers: Binary Every app, photo, and video ultimately reduces to just two symbols: 0 and 1. Unlike the decimal system (base 10) used by humans, computers operate using binary (base 2). Each digit, called a bit, represents a power of 2 based on its position. When combined, these bits encode all digital information. From storing a single character to running complex algorithms, binary is the foundation of modern computing. When you see streams of 0s and 1s, you’re looking at the basic building blocks of the digital world.

Binary ➜ Denary in under 1 minute 👀 This is the place value method — no tricks, no guessing. Denary is the number system we use every day (base 10). Binary uses 0s and 1s, and each column doubles as you move left. Watch how I convert a binary number step-by-step using a place value table on iPad + GoodNotes. Perfect for #KS3Computing, #GCSEComputerScience, and #IGCSEComputerScience students. Great for quick revision, especially if #BinaryNumbers have felt confusing before. Follow @explaining.tech to learn everything about technology one post at a time 🧠⚙️ Although it looks like a beautiful antique, the mechanism you’re seeing is a brilliant mechanical simulation of digital logic: a Mechanical Binary Counter. It shows, in physical motion, the core principle that defines all modern computing. All computers store information using binary—a system of two states, 0 or 1. This mechanical device translates that abstract concept into a physical, moving system of levers and gears. Each physical wheel or lever on the machine represents one bit. When a crank is turned or a pulse is received, it triggers a chain reaction. The least significant bit (the first wheel) toggles every time it receives a pulse, moving from 0 to 1 and back again. The key to the whole counting process is the carry-over mechanism. Just like in decimal numbers where 9 rolls over to 0 and carries a 1 to the next column, when a bit rolls from 1 back to 0, it physically sends a signal—a lever push or a ratchet movement—to the next bit (the next wheel). Because the next bit only changes state when the previous one makes a complete cycle, the next bit changes half as frequently. This process creates the 1:2 gear reduction, where the bits represent powers of two (2^0, 2^1, 2^2, etc.). It’s an elegant piece of engineering that proves you can build complex digital logic using nothing more than clever mechanical design, demonstrating the genius of early computer science. #ComputerHistory #MechanicalEngineering #BinaryLogic

🧠 Why AengineeringSATwallstreetnumbers 🔹 1. Building Blocks of Numbers. Every number is made from primes! Just like atoms build matter, primes build all natural numbers. 🔹 2. Unbreakable Patterns They don’t follow easy rules—making them mysterious and fascinating for mathematicians. 🔹 3. Backbone of Cryptography 🔐 Your online banking, passwords, and data security rely on the difficulty of factoring large primes. 🔹 4. Used in Nature & Tech From sunflower spirals to signal processing—primes are everywhere. 🔹 5. Quant Finance 💹 Primes help in creating pseudo-random number generators, essential for Monte Carlo simulations in option pricing and risk models. 🔹 6. Infinite & Irregular There are infinitely many primes, but no formula predicts them all. That’s why they’re still being studied! ✨ Prime numbers aren't just math—they're magic hiding in plain sight.
