Bread makers do this all the time! One of the biggest struggles with new bread makers is how to know when we’ve added enough flour… I always tell my Baking Academy students that it’s best to go by touch. Your dough can LOOK sticky but if you touch it (lightly tap on it), it may feel like it’s just right. 👉🏻 Going by touch is key to knowing when you’ve added enough flour. The bread dough should feel soft and pliable, slightly tacky but not wet. Your finger should come away mostly clean. If the dough does feel wet and too sticky, add 1-2 Tablespoons of flour and fully incorporate it before trying the Touch Test again. ⭐️Use the Touch Test after you’ve mixed but before you knead the dough. And bonus: after the dough is kneaded and rises it’s first rise, it will become even more easy to handle! ⭐️Avoid adding too much flour, as this can result in dry, dense bread. Remember, you can always add more flour later when you shape, BUT (say it with me🥰) you can’t take flour away! Give the Touch Test a try next time and let me know how it changes your homemade bread!🍞 #thatbreadlady #breadmaking #homemadebread #bakingtips #bakingrecipes #breadclass

I love making intricate painted designs on my loaves, but sometimes I absolutely adore going back to scoring. When I score, I typically do one wheat stalk up either side, then a slash in the middle. It was so fun to branch out with this beautiful scalloped pattern. . . Bread makers- Do you have a signature score that you default to? . . This bread is 75% hydration sourdough made with @kingarthurbaking whole wheat and bread flours.
