Have you ever seen such a curious burrowing owl 😂 Bu kadar meraklı yer baykuşu görmüş müydünüz😂 The burrowing owl is a small owl species that lives in open, flat areas. Unlike most owls, it does not live in trees but in underground burrows. It can be active during the day and moves quickly on the ground thanks to its long legs. It feeds on insects and small rodents and is known for its curious and alert behavior. 🦉

Wildlife Conservationist @mattpoolephoto letting these cute burrowing owls go back to their artificial burrow! Burrowing Owls are small, sandy colored owls with bright-yellow eyes. They live underground in burrows they’ve dug themselves or taken over from a prairie dog, ground squirrel, or tortoise. They live in grasslands, deserts, and other open habitats, where they hunt mainly insects and rodents. 🎥 @mattpoolephoto

All owls are being handled for research by trained and permitted biologists. *Being handled by humans is undoubtedly stressful for a wild animal; us researchers keep the handling time short, the environment calm and quiet, and the chicks are promptly released back to their burrows completely unharmed after data collection. Sites with trail cams show these owls completely back to normal right after we leave the area, however confused they may be during the handling process. Both of the parents are nearby and return back to their chicks right afterwards.

Rising from the Burrow😂 Çukurdan çıkış😂 Burrowing owls are much more social and curious than many other owl species. While most owls prefer to live alone, burrowing owls often live in loose colonies and build their nests close to one another. They can warn each other of danger and actively protect their young. Because they are active during the day, they are easier to observe. Standing at the entrance of their burrow, scanning their surroundings for long periods, and tilting their heads from side to side are some of the cutest signs of their curious nature. They can also be more tolerant of humans compared to other owls. Individuals living near residential areas may become accustomed to human presence and continue observing calmly from a safe distance. This makes them appear even more social and engaging to watch. Especially the chicks often look like they are putting on a little show as they watch the world from the burrow entrance. 🦉

Burrowing owls are pocket-sized predators, standing just 10 inches tall and weighing the same as a box of paperclips. The cute bird lives underground in open areas like deserts and grasslands. You can find them across the western US, Florida, Mexico, and down into South America, usually posted up in abandoned prairie dog burrows like they own the place. Because they kind of do. Comparatively, Eurasian Eagle Owls are one of the largest owls in the world. They stand over two feet tall and weigh up to 10 pounds. Next to our burrowing owl, it’s like a tiger next to a house cat. Burrowing owls are active during the day, love wide open spaces, and are proof that good things come in small, feathery packages. Even though they are called “burrowing owls”, they don’t actually burrow. They take over the holes of other burrowing creatures, like prairie dogs. • Found across the western United States, Florida, Mexico, and into Central and South America • They prefer flat, open areas, not forests • They nest underground, unlike most owls • They can rotate their heads 270° • They are diurnal, which means that they are active during the day, especially at dawn and dusk
