Leg Flexibility is a CRUCIAL part of contortion training. When you train leg flexibility (meaning a combination of stretching, working on splits, and active flexibility) your body develops the necessary strength and flexibility needed to help you get deeper in your backbends. Now you might be wondering… “HOW? WHY?” Let me explain! A big part of safe backbending is hip flexor flexibility. But it’s more than that. It’s about being able to actively access your hip flexibility while in backbends to ensure you don’t overuse your low back. If you train your leg flexibility properly, you *should* be developing leg and core strength, overall flexibility (obviously) and control through your end range of motion - which is SUPER important for healthy backbending 💯 (ESPECIALLY if your goals include Needle, Rainbow Marchenko, etc.) So if you’re someone who usually skips leg flex because you don’t like it as much… STOP IT 😬😅😂 But seriously, I promise, it WILL make training your back flexibility safer and easier in the long run! My Contortion Strong: Leg Flex Warm-up and Personalized Flexibility Training are the perfect programs to focus on your legs in the exact ways needed to make training Contortion easier 🦐 #trainingwithcatiebrier⁣ #contortiontraining #shrimparmy #notyoga

Chest stands? I’m coming for you… the slow and steady way.
I know how tempting it is to skip steps when you see them all over Instagram—I can honestly say I’m tempted to do the advanced skills too. I did them for years! But I had to give up contortion for a while when I became a Mama 👶🏼 Now, I’m here. Back to basics. Back to progressions. Relearning stretching. There’s SO much to work on. I know my body is not ready for chest stands but with the right progressions, technique and TIME, I know I will get there 🙃 💡Slow, intentional progress is where the magic happens.

I’ve grown to love training cobra variations, though that wasn’t always the case. These variations lay the foundation for progressing to more advanced backbends- ankle catch, chin stands, or hand balancing with deep backbends. This posture demands active engagement of several muscle groups, making it essential for both preparation and strengthening in contortion training. If you only see the result of many years of yoga or contortion training from naturally flexible individuals, you may get a skewed idea of flexibility training and stretching. Here are a few things to keep in mind: 1. Find a teacher you trust! 2. You don’t need go push to your 100% range every practice 3. It shouldn’t hurt! Sore, uncomfortable, tiring? Yes. But absolutely not painful. 4. Make sure to warm up and cool down every single practice. Every single one. 5. Consistency is important! 6. Have fun!

STUDIO TO STAGE EPISODE 1 This weeks main aim was to get back into training as Christmas was a big break for me, I ate loads and chilled; so, giving my body time to get back into a routine that supplements my highest self on this journey is a priority and, of course, learning. Main tick offs this week: ✅ Contortion training ✅ Cross training ✅ Booked a Ballet class for next week ✅ The most transformative breathwork session with @rosie_coaching ✅ 1:1 chat with my contortion coach and performer @bendwithjess_flexibility to gain insights into performing; structuring my training, where to start with choreo, and plan of action moving forward ✅ Being pushed to get out of my comfort zone from structure and organisation to feeling, flowing and just getting messy with how I move to my emotions 🔥 Hit follow to join me on my journey to becoming a professional performer 🫶 #performerlife #contortionist #flexibilitycoach #mobilitycoach #mobility #flexibility #breathwork #crosstrainingfordancers

Handstand scorpion teaches me to hold on tight and let go at the same time, To find the balance and breathe into the space, That tiny movements in the fingers and wrist can control the position of the whole spine, To be aware of all the parts moving together. It took me 5 years of consistent practice to learn how to do this, and I’ve maintained it for 15 more. When I began I couldn’t hold a handstand for more than a second… Consistency is key 🔑 Sharing this to inspire anyone who enjoys balance and contortion training. Grateful for health, Enjoying the journey, Dm if ur interested to train with us Www.urbanavatars.com #uamsa #handstandscorpion 🙏

Back lever…what??? 😳 Yes, this is the first time I’ve ever been able to extend a leg in a back lever! No, I haven’t trained for it or even tried it in years 🤷🏻‍♀️ Why was I able to get it today? Building strength and improving mobility in the gym. Once I stopped doing a ton of pole with contortion training and started focusing on lifting heavier, skill like this started happening without much direct training. Adding mobility work into every session certainly helped as well. 😉 Did I lose some flexibility? Of course. My backbends feel very tight these days. For me though, strength > flex 🩷 #backlever #strengthandconditioningforpole #polestrength
