"The light-dependent reactions use light energy to make two molecules needed for the next stage of photosynthesis: the energy storage molecule ATP and the reduced electron carrier NADPH. In plants, the light reactions take place in the thylakoid membranes of organelles called chloroplasts. Photosystems, large complexes of proteins and pigments (light-absorbing molecules) that are optimized to harvest light, play a key role in the light reactions. There are two types of photosystems: photosystem I (PSI) and photosystem II (PSII). Both photosystems contain many pigments that help collect light energy, as well as a special pair of chlorophyll molecules found at the core (reaction center) of the photosystem. The special pair of photosystem I is called P700, while the special pair of photosystem II is called P680. In a process called non-cyclic photophosphorylation (the "standard" form of the light-dependent reactions), electrons are removed from water and passed through PSII and PSI before ending up in NADPH. This process requires light to be absorbed twice, once in each photosystem, and it makes ATP . In fact, it's called photophosphorylation because it involves using light energy (photo) to make ATP from ADP (phosphorylation)." #photosynthesis #calvincycle

Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome is a rare disorder that causes recurrent episodes of nausea and vomitings. At the time when I was diagnosed with CVS, there was not much information available on this. Therefore, there was alot of hit and trial in terms of treating it. The doctors ran every possible test on me to figure what was happening but in vain. My episodes lasted for about 6 days in which every hour I'll be puking about 10-15 times and no I'm not exaggerating the numbers. 10 vomits/hour for 6 days every month. Also in my particular case, no medicine really worked, even when medicines were injected into my blood/ given through IV, there was hardly any relief until the whole episode ends i.e. 6 days. After those 6 days I would be so exhausted physically, mentally and emotionally that it felt impossible that I could continue living like this. That's been my life for the past 10 years now. But last year, I decided to take things into my own hand. I realised that over years, I had developed so much anxiety with CVS that now it was my anxiety that was controlling this illness and I understood that now it had become a game of my mind. So if I could somehow manage to control my own mind, I would be able to control the anxiety therefore no vomitings. And that's exactly what I did. In the past one year, I've worked on changing my mindset and overcoming my severe anxiety. And honestly, it was the best decision I've ever made. It feels like I've been given another life and from now on, no matter what happens I'll only be rising upwards. That's the power of our mind. And today, I'm here to remind you that if I could come out of this rare illness by simply working on my thoughts, emotions and understanding how our mind works, SO CAN YOU! 🌟 P.S. I don't know if or when the next episode might strike me but now I know I have the power to come out of it in a day or less. Lots of love to you all! The chemical reaction that initiates each β€œturn” of the TCA cycle is the condensation of the four-carbon metabolite oxaloacetate (OAA) with the two-carbon molecule acetyl-CoA to generate citrate. Subsequent reactions oxidize citrate to produce two molecules of CO2 and one GTP or ATP molecule (Fig. 1) (3). During each turn of the cycle, three hydride ions (six electrons) are transferred to three NAD+ molecules and one pair of hydrogen atoms (two electrons) are transferred to one FAD molecule, producing four reducing equivalents total (three NADH and one FADH2) (Fig. 1). Importantly, each turn of the cycle ends with the regeneration of the starting molecule, OAA. Thus, OAA acts as a catalyst in the TCA cycle: only a small amount is required for the oxidation of large amounts of acetyl-CoA (4). The TCA cycle itself neither consumes molecular oxygen nor produces meaningful amounts of ATP; rather, the TCA cycle removes electrons (reducing equivalents) from inputs (e.g., acetyl-CoA) and transfers them to electron carriers that deposit their electrons onto the electron transport chain (ETC). Electron funneling through the complexes of the ETC is coupled to generation of the mitochondrial membrane potential that is ultimately used to power the production of the cellular currency (ATP) in a process known as oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), as oxygen serves as the terminal acceptor for electrons that transit through the ETC (Fig. 1) (3)." #biochem #metabolicpathways #tcacycle #citricacidcycle #krebscycle #metabolism
