I started learning the method deeply. Understanding how sounds truly work. How letters represent those sounds. How blending turns symbols into meaningful words. How segmenting strengthens spelling. How correct pronunciation builds confidence. In the beginning, it felt technical. Rules. Patterns. Practice. But knowledge alone wasn’t enough. Real growth happened in the classroom. Sitting beside a child. Repeating sounds patiently. Trying different strategies. Celebrating the smallest improvements. There were moments of doubt. Moments when progress felt slow. Moments when I questioned myself. But consistency creates change. Slowly, I saw it happen. A hesitant reader decoding independently. A child who once avoided books reading aloud with confidence. Smiles replacing frustration. That’s when I understood — This journey was never just about phonics. It was about building belief. In children. And in myself. Over time, this journey shaped me. It made me more observant. More patient. More intentional in every lesson I teach. Becoming a phonics educator didn’t happen overnight.
