Follow (us) @InsideHistory to learn something NEW everyday 🧠💫 Dolphin sound frequencies, particularly their ultrasonic echolocation clicks ranging from about 2,000 Hz up to 100,000 Hz, are believed to have potential therapeutic effects for children with cerebral palsy! These high-frequency sounds can create gentle vibrations that may influence brain activity by promoting relaxation and improving neural synchronization between brain hemispheres. This process, similar to vibroacoustic therapy, might help reduce muscle stiffness and enhance motor control. Additionally, dolphin-assisted therapy combines these sound frequencies with tactile and emotional stimulation, which can reduce anxiety and increase engagement in rehabilitation. #wildlife #dolphins #history #reels #science

Dolphins use echolocation to navigate and explore. They emit clicks that travel through the water, bouncing off objects and returning as echoes. These sounds are emitted through their melon! These echoes are absorbed through their hollow lower jaw, which acts as an acoustic receiver, transmitting the sound to their inner ear and brain. This process allows dolphins to ‘see’ their surroundings with sound, detecting the size, shape, and speed of objects. This remarkable ability helps them thrive in their underwater environment, enabling them to find food and avoid obstacles. What else would you like to learn about our dolphin friends? Just off Darwin’s cliffs, we shared a moment with one of the most intelligent beings in the ocean—bottlenose dolphins. This individual stayed with us during the safety stop for around 9 minutes, just staring at us and not doing circles or games but just staring at us up close. Their brains are structurally complex and larger than ours relative to body size, with a neocortex and limbic system highly developed. The paralimbic region, associated with processing emotions and social behavior, is especially intricate, meaning that they might feel an emotional spectrum greater than ours. They use echolocation to build detailed images of their surroundings, detecting subtle shifts in movement, muscle tension, and even heart rate. In other words, they don’t just see us—they perceive us on a level we barely understand. Could they be sensing more than just movement? Could they be feeling our frequency, our intentions, our energy? Science hasn’t fully answered that yet. But in moments like this, you can’t help but wonder… maybe they already know us better than we think. #galapagoswildlife #darwinisland #dolphinencounter #oceanintelligence #cetaceanscience #bluemind #wildlifereels #apexoceandivers

For the first time ever, research recreates what dolphins see with sound. The sound of a dolphin's echolocation of a submerged man created an incredible cymatic image of that same submerged man. Researchers John Stuart Reid and Jack Kassewitz from SpeakDolphin found that the sound of dolphin echolocation held the information for a cymatic imprint of the submerged diver. Cymatics is the study of how sound vibrations influence matter. This field was pioneered by researchers like Hans Jenning, who used metal plates to explore how sound created reproducible patterns when exposed to music. Incredibly, Stuart found that any part of the echolocation cone of vibratory information held the entire image of the submerged man. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #expedicion #viajero #naturaleza

Whale echolocation is the process by which whales use sound to navigate and communicate in their underwater environment. Whales produce a series of clicks and other vocalizations that are emitted from the forehead or lower jaw, and the echoes of these sounds help them to locate objects, navigate, and communicate with other whales. Some interesting facts about whale echolocation include: Sperm whales are known for producing some of the loudest and most complex echolocation clicks of any whale species. Whales can use echolocation to detect objects as small as a grain of rice from hundreds of meters away. Echolocation clicks are typically frequency modulated, meaning that the frequency of the sound increases or decreases as it is emitted. Some whale species, such as humpback whales, use echolocation not only for navigation, but also for hunting and foraging for food. Whales can adjust the intensity and frequency of their echolocation clicks depending on the task at hand, such as searching for food or communicating with other whales. Can you hear those sharp clicking sounds? Bottlenose dolphins use echolocation by sending rapid, high-frequency pulses that bounce off objects like fish and the sandy seafloor, helping them create a detailed acoustic map of their surroundings. In the Bahamas, they use this skill to crater feed, locating fish buried beneath the sand and diving nose-first to flush them out. The circular craters they leave behind linger for hours, like underwater footprints. It’s a clever technique, passed down through generations, that showcases how dolphins adapt their environments and rely on complex social learning to thrive in the wild. A pod of dolphins glides through calm ocean waters, but one has a wild surprise—a live octopus draped completely over its head like a hood! The dolphin keeps swimming in perfect formation with its pod, occasionally shaking its head as the octopus clings and shifts, tentacles trailing behind in the water.
