The goal is never perfection — it’s deeper connection to your own body. 🧘‍♀️ Here’s what to watch for: ❌ Top Shoulder Collapsing Forward 👉 Fix: Spiral your chest open toward the ceiling, reaching strongly through your top fingertips. Think: broad, open collarbones and long side waist. ❌ Back Leg Losing Activation 👉 Fix: Firm your back thigh, press the outer blade of your back foot firmly into the mat, and fully extend through your back knee. A strong back leg = a strong foundation. 🔥 ❌ Collapsing into the Bottom Arm 👉 Fix: Instead of sinking down, gently press your bottom forearm into your front thigh and lift your ear away from your shoulder to create space. Use the connection for light support, not full weight. ❌ Front Knee Caving Inward 👉 Fix: Gently press your knee outward to track over your second or third toe. Activate your outer hip and glutes to stabilize the leg and protect your knee. 🧱 Modifications: Place a block under your bottom hand to help maintain full length through the side body. Much love Charlie ✨ ⠀ 🌴Step-by-step: 1️⃣ Start in a pyramid pose. 2️⃣ Hold your big toe with index and middle finger. 3️⃣ Shift weight into the grounded hand and turn your body to the side as you roll onto the outside edge of the back foot. 4️⃣ Lift your leg as your lift your arm in one smooth motion. 5️⃣ Press the foot into your hand and keep your chest open as you hold the pose. ⠀ 🙏 If you are trying this for the first time go easy on yourself, don’t worry if the pose isn’t ‘perfect’, it will be wobbly… and probably a little messy but that’s okay, it’s all part of the process. ⠀ ⠀ #yogawithcharlie #yogapose #yogaflexibility #yogajourney #practicemakesprogress #yogalove #fitnessmotivation #yogaprogress

I want to preface this by saying that there is no magical benefit that occurs when the shoulders stack. But, there is a BONUS benefit to this particular adjustment that’s mentioned at the end of this caption! My intention with this adjustment is to make the upper body portion of this pose feel more accessible and not have students fighting against gravity trying to crank their arm and neck upward. Whenever I look at why students struggle to get the top arm above them and shoulders stacked, I see the same thing - the position of the bottom arm and shoulder is pulling the top arm and shoulder with it. That’s why I love this simple adjustment of internally rotating the opposite arm. While it doesn’t include consideration of ALL of the culprits and reasoning as to why someone might struggle to get the top arm above them, it certainly accounts for a HUGE percentage of the problem. I find starting students off with internally rotating that bottom shoulder BEFORE they lean into triangle (or whichever pose features these arms) is the best way to get them to understand how it can help. They’ll be able to see and feel the torso twist with more ease while they body is upright, then you can instruct them to maintain that shoulder positioning as they move into the other layers of the pose. The BONUS benefit to this adjustment during a pose like triangle or extended side angle, is that it autonomically FIRES the CORE! For example, when doing either of these poses with the right arm down and left arm up, in order to keep the lower body stabilized with the direction of going more down and twisting slightly to the right, the lower body has to do the opposite which requires stability to go more up and twist slightly to the left. Maintaining these opposite directions naturally requires the core to activate, which makes this pose so much more stable and beneficial long term! #trianglepose #trikonasana #yogateachertips #yogainstructor #extendedsideangle

This imaginary beach ball brings attention to your obliques and side body and is not easy, especially if you tend to get a little sneaky, resting a little on that front thigh. 😉 The beach ball imagery itself also encourages the squeezing engagement of the arms, like you’re every-so-gently holding a (nearly) weightless ball.
