SELECTING THE IDEAL MEDITATION Our conscious experience moves back and forth along the continuum between perception and disassociation according to many factors. Perception itself has two axes: interoception, which is a focus on our bodily sensations and internal thoughts, and exteroception, which is a perceptual focus (awareness) of events beyond the confines of our skin. Knowing where you are on these continuums is essential to selecting the best meditation practice. **Keep in mind what is best can and does change from day to day and even across the day. In the new episode of the Huberman Lab podcast, I explain how to determine the best meditation for you, how to select the duration and best time of day to do it. Again there is no one simple answer, but there are better or worse choices depending on your state heading into the meditation. Recognizing your state in a structured way, and deciding where you want to be mentally and physically when you exit the meditation is essential. In the podcast episode I explain how to pose and answer a few simple questions that will allow you to select the best meditation practice— and some examples of different mediations that quality peer reviewed studies show are especially potent. From @neurodivergent_insights: ADHD #hyperfixation plus poor #interoception can be a real beast. 💚 Many #ADHD and #Autistic folks forget to eat, go to the bathroom and take care of basic bodily things. Particularly when hyper-fixated many don’t get the initial cues (initial hunger cues, thirst cues etc.) and often don’t know their body needs something until their secondary cues (low blood sugar) or urgency kicks in. 💚 This is one thing that can contribute to irritability and emotional dysregulation. When our bodies are out of rhythms our emotions tend to follow. 💫Shout out to son Mark who created the idea of this reel (he’s a producer in the making). 🌈 Dr. Neff

If you’re feeling stressed and/or out of balance, you might want to tap into the wisdom of your body. After all, you can only ignore the check engine light for so long before your car stops running - we are the same. Nervous System Recovery & Embodiment Coach Karolina Rupp breaks down why surfers experience anxiety in safe conditions, how your body's "watchdog" creates phantom threats, the 5 minute exteroception practice for before/during/after sessions, and how to recognize if your nervous system is dysregulated! This helps tremendously for people that have anxiety/fear around surfing. Did you know that people with Spina Cord Injuries can feel nauseous even if they can’t feel parts of their body? This happens because nausea is processed through interoception, our brain’s ability to sense what’s happening inside the body. Even when sensation below the injury is disrupted, the brain can still detect signals from the gut and other internal systems. This disconnect happens because the spinal cord injury blocks sensory input from reaching the brain, but nausea doesn’t rely on those signals to be felt. It’s a fascinating reminder of how complex and incredible the nervous system truly is! 🧠✨ #SpinalCordInjury #Interoception #healtheducation #NeuroscienceFacts #SCIeducation #scifacts #nursefacts

Range of motion: Range of EMOTION Rolling - it impacts every system of your body. Your fascial tissues are laced and embedded with multiple different tissues: muscular, vasculature, neural, lymphatic, skeletal and even immune cells that traffic in and out. Your rolling may be light or deep- and this self stimulation has so many effects on each system of your body and embodiment. Sometimes when you roll, an unexpected emotion arises that shifts you into memory, problem solving or clarity. You’re not just feeling your body- you’re feeling your feelings. This may be because the hundreds of millions of sensory neurons embedded in your fascia don’t just travel to movement centers of your brain, but they also travel through your lateral spinothalamic tract - a sensory pathway that relays interoceptive information to your brain- which alights emotional experience. Pay attention to your range of emotion next time you roll and see what you uncover. 🌟 @tuneupfitness @body.by.breath #lateralspinothalamictract #alphaball #rangeofmotion #interoception #rangeofemotion #fascia #selfmyofascialrelease

Autism + food preferences aren’t about being “picky” — they’re about sensory reality. For me, textures, smells, temperature, and brand consistency decide what’s “safe.” After masking all day, I crave predictable flavours and quick dopamine (hello simple carbs). Add interoception (weak hunger cues), time-blindness, and executive dysfunction… and my menu narrows fast. What helps: • a safe-foods rotation • texture swaps (crispy→baked, smooth→blended) • visual menus + routine mealtimes • protein-first grab snacks • regulate sensory input before eating (noise, lighting, pressure) Eating differently doesn’t make you broken — it makes you neurodivergent. 💙 👇 COMMENT “BRAIN” and I’ll send you my free Bulletproof Autistic Brain Starter Kit, or use the link in bio. 🧠⚡ #SensoryEatingTips, #SafeFoods, #MealRoutineHacks, #AutismFoodPreferences, #SelectiveEating, #FoodAversions, #AutismCommunity, #ADHDAutismLife, #NeurodivergentLife

Most parents don't realise is that hyperactivity and meltdowns are often a nervous system regulation issue, not a discipline or parenting problem. An OT looks at things like proprioceptive input, vestibular processing, and interoception — all the hidden reasons a child's body can't find its "off switch" — and builds a personalised sensory diet to help them regulate from the inside out.

Have you ever heard of interoception? It’s one of the 8 senses and it’s responsible for alerting us of our internal sensations, such as heartbeat, hunger/thirst, fullness cues, aches, pains and other miscellaneous sensations. Have you ever said “I have butterflies in my tummy” or “My heart is pounding out of my chest”? Those sensations are interoception signals to your brain and it’s highly linked to emotional regulation. Some kids can be sensitive to interoceptive sensations just like they can be sensitive to sounds or getting their hands sticky. The difference is, many kids don’t know they’re sensitive to interoception. Many of them just “feel off” or have an automatic nervous system fight or flight reaction to feeling overheated, tired, having to use the bathroom, hungry, or thirsty. This can make them be perceived as being bratty, always needing to control the environment or play, demanding certain foods or snacks ASAP, or being unable to tolerate any emotions of discomfort like frustration or disappointment. If this resonates for you, do a deep dive on interoception! It’s often referred to as the missing link to emotional regulation. If you want to watch an on demand workshop on interoception hosted by 2 interoception experts, comment INTEROCEPTION25 and I’ll send you the info.
