I was starting to feel so constrained by needing to find an audio that would do well with the algorithm but I am so over it. Give me more suggestions! And my latest collab with @sneakerkit is complete, just in time for #quiltcon! Making quilted shoes just might be my favorite thing ever. This is my fourth(!) pair now, and it does not get old (and I promise you, it’s not that hard!!). I was originally inspired by @spunstraw’s shoes she made a few years ago (check out her latest RSS Teddy and the Bears kicks - 🤯🤯). To make your own, head to @sneakerkit for their sole kits - there is info there for my US friends on where to purchase your set here. This is also where to find the patterns to use for your quilted upper portion (these kits are actually made for leather, but they translate so well to quilting!). I’m using the “Summer1” pattern for these and it’s so good! As to my process, these are a whole cloth version. I’m using this gorgeous woven called Astrid Weave in Red from the Swedish Holiday collection by @houselarsbuilt x @fablesim and I can’t get enough of this fabric. 😍😍 I quilted this to Soft and Stable stablizing foam, accentuating the weave pattern (it’s so good!) and then cut out the pattern pieces with about a 1/2” seam allowance. I then sew these to a lining fabric, right sides together, leaving an opening to turn. I get them right sides out and then topstitch to secure. Attach the grommets for the laces *before* attaching the uppers to the sole (ask me how I know… 😅). Grommets are like eyelets but with an additional ring on the back, I’ve found these work better on quilted fabric than simple rivets - I like sizes 3-5mm but see what you like best! @sneakerkit has a great video on attaching the uppers to the soles and your shoes are pretty much complete! You can pre-punch the holes in the upper and use Fray Check to prevent fraying, or use a sharper needle and sew right through the upper. There are lots of different methods, tutorials and shops offering classes around, someday I’ll record my process, unfortunately this was not the time. 🤷🏼‍♀️ But please feel free to reach out with any questions you might have, I’m happy to help! #embercraftcompany #housethatlarsbuilt #fableism #sneakerkit #quiltedshoes #shoes #quiltedsneakers #sneakerporn

I spent last week putting the finishing touches on my #saltyfibersquilt by @scandiquilts . I love this #fableism sprout wovens binding in bronze, one of my favorite colors. (These fabrics are mostly a mix of @fableism and @artgalleryfabrics) Picking a binding fabric is one of my favorite parts of the process. Sometimes I pick a fabric from the quilt top i want to emphasize, but other times, like why this one, I pick a totally different fabric that complements or contrasts with the top. (I just love how that bronze looks next to the sprout wovens marmalade!) The one thing I never like is getting too matchy-matchy with my binding.
