THEverything you need to know about paint sheens ✨
Rule #1… There are no rules, its all a matter of personal preference really🤷♀️ Do what you love and what works best for you and your specific circumstances.
With that being said, its good to know the strengths and weaknesses of each sheen when choosing a paint, so here’s some info that might be helpful ⬇️
Flat and matte- Generally used on ceilings, great at hiding imperfections but difficult to clean.
Egg shell (low luster) finish - This one is my personal fav because it gives that matte look while still being easy to clean, typically used in living rooms, bedrooms and in my house… every room 😅🤫
Satin (25-35% sheen) - Generally used in kitchens/ bathrooms because it can be easily wiped down. In recent years it’s also become a popular choice for trim/molding and even doors.
Semi-gloss - Higher shine, typically used for trim/molding, doors, cabinets and more. Known for its durability.
High gloss- Very high shine, reflects a lot of light, should be sprayed for the best results. While it’s super durable and easy to clean, it is more likely to show the imperfections in your walls and paint job. Not the best choice for rough uneven surfaces.
Paint sheens will differ from brand to brand so it’s important to always grab a sample to test in your space beforehand.
