In the first 6 weeks, your baby’s little nervous system is still developing. Sleep isn’t just rest — it’s how their brain grows, organizes, and builds important connections. During this stage, babies typically shouldn’t stay awake for more than about 45 minutes at a time (yes, that includes feeding!). Please note I am supporting this sweet babies upper back and neck with my left hand. It’s completely normal — and healthy — for newborns to sleep 18–20 hours out of every 24. 😴Check out @megfaure.sense You may notice different levels of sensory system arousal in your baby:
• Deeply asleep
• Calm and alert
• Active alert
• Fussy or crying In the first 3 months (often called the “4th trimester”), our goal isn’t long wake windows or strict schedules. It’s helping babies spend more time in that calm alert state — where they feel safe, connected, and regulated. Overstimulation (bright lights, loud noises, too much handling, staying awake too long) can quickly push a newborn from calm alert into overtired and fussy — and that actually makes it harder for them to fall asleep. If your newborn seems to just eat, sleep, and repeat… you’re not doing it wrong. You’re supporting healthy development. 💛 Slow rhythms. Short wake windows. Lots of sleep. That’s exactly what their growing brains need. #NewbornCare #fourthtrimester #InfantDevelopment #PediatricChiropractic #ChiropracticForKids #NervousSystemSupport #BabySleep #HealthyBeginnings #HolisticParenting #CalmConnectedParenting #familywellness #HuntVitality

Oh newborns 🤍 🚼 Often they’re awake just long enough for a feed, diaper change, burp and right back to sleep. On repeat, all day long. 💖 This stage isn’t about strict schedules. It’s about finding a gentle rhythm. Think flexible routine, not rigid schedule. Focus on a simple flow of eat → wake → sleep and aim for full feeds during awake time. Here’s a general guide for the newborn stage: ✨ Wake windows: about 30–45 minutes 😴 Total sleep: 16–20 hours in 24 hours 🌙 Day sleep: ~8–9 hours (often inconsistent) 🌙 Night sleep: ~8–10 hours (also inconsistent) Helpful tips: • Offer full feedings every 2.5–3 hours • Cap naps around 2–2.25 hours to protect daytime feeds • Expect a later bedtime in the newborn stage Over time, this gentle rhythm helps babies start to organize their days and nights. For now, follow your baby’s cues and keep it flexible 🤍 💙 Hi! I'm Sarah. I'm a certified pediatric sleep consultant, former RN and mom of 4. Newborn Crying Decoder (private version) 🤍👶 Because sometimes it’s not “just crying.” Save this — it’ll help at 2am 💛 ⸻ Newborns don’t cry randomly. Crying is communication. Here’s a simple decoder every parent should know 👇 🍼 “Neh” 👉 Hunger (Rooting, sucking hands, turning head) 😴 “Owh” 👉 Sleepy (Rubbing eyes, zoning out, red eyebrows) 💨 “Eh” 👉 Needs burping (Squirming, arching back, pulling away from feed) 🤕 High-pitched, intense cry 👉 Pain or discomfort (Check diaper, temperature, tight clothes) 😣 Rhythmic, fussy cry in evening 👉 Overstimulation or colic 💡 Watch body language, not just sound: • Clenched fists = tension • Back arching = discomfort • Pulling legs up = gas No one understands your baby better than you. You’re learning their language every day 🤍 If this helped, save it for later — and share with a new parent 💛 Follow @FirstChoiceClub for real, practical parenting guidance 🤍 ⸻ #NewbornCare #BabyCrying #NewMomLife #InfantCare #FourthTrimester ParentingTips FirstTimeParents MomLifeIndia BabyCareBasics FirstChoiceClub

Have you ever heard of the fourth trimester? There are obviously only 3 trimesters in pregnancy, so what is it exactly?!?!?! ⁣ ⁣ The fourth trimester is the first 3 months of your baby’s life and it’s often referred to as “the missing fourth trimester”. This is because it is believed that babies are born earlier than they are developmentally ready, simply because their Mums bodies cannot physically deliver a baby with a brain/skull size at 12 months gestation. ⁣ ⁣ Because of this our little ones really do need and crave those sensations of the womb. They are learning and adjusting to their new life in the outside world, just as you are to motherhood. ⁣ They are still so tiny and underdeveloped they cannot control their arm movements (startle reflex), they cannot focus/see clearly, they are learning to feed and they are most of all, learning to sleep, something that has been assisted for the 9 months they were in the womb. This doesn’t come naturally to them, so we need to go easy and slow. Easy on our babies, and easy on ourselves. Do not put pressure on yourself to get your little one self settling and sleeping through the night. ⁣ I recommend doing whatever you need to do in this first few months getting to know each other and cuddling your baby as much as you need to.⁣ Mimic those sensations of the womb by:⁣ * Applying white noise⁣ * Arms down swaddling⁣ * Dark room ⁣ * Not keeping them awake for too long a periods⁣ ⁣ All of things and lots of cuddles will help you both adjust to your new worlds for the first four months while you enjoy that baby bubble bliss ✨ ⁣ Tag an expectant Mum or new Mum who needs to know this. ⁣ •⁣ •⁣ •⁣ •⁣ • #thesleepteacher #babywhisperer #sleep #sleepconsultant #mumlife #newborn #newbornsleep #sleeptips #motherhood #motherhoodunplugged #motherhoodrising #motherhoodthroughinstagram #nap #naptime #baby #childhood #mummyblog #mummyblogger #mummybloggerau #parenting #parentingtips #routine #babyroutine #mummy #mommy #sleeptrain #sleeptraining

When I was pregnant while chasing a toddler, I was EXHAUSTED and lowkey terrified of the baby arriving. If I was so tired with a toddler before having a newborn, how would I function after? Well, we’re almost a month in and I’m here to report back on the situation 🫡 tl;dr version: having a newborn + toddler is a walk in the park compared to being pregnant with a toddler! #thirdtrimester #pregnantlife #secondtimemom #toddlermom #fourthtrimester

Ever feel like you’re defusing a bomb when you lower your baby into the crib? You spent 20 minutes rocking them. Your arms are numb. You move like a ninja toward the bassinet. 🥷 You’re millimeters away from freedom… and then the second their head hits the mattress… BAM. Eyes wide open. 👁️👄👁️ This isn’t a “bad sleeper”, it’s the Moro Reflex. When a baby’s head drops lower than their body during a transfer, their brain thinks they’re falling. To fix it, try the “Feet, Seat, then Sleep” method: 1️⃣ Feet first: Let their toes touch the mattress first. 🦶 2️⃣ Bottom second: Lower the hips slowly to keep their center of gravity stable. 3️⃣ The Side-Roll: Gently roll them onto their back and side. This keeps the limbs “tucked” and prevents the startle! 🔄 By landing the feet first and keeping the head elevated until the very last second, you bypass that “falling” sensation entirely. 🙌 Save this for your next nap time attempt and share it with a tired parent! 💤☕️ #babysleep #newbornsleep #moroReflex #parentinghacks #fourthtrimester sleeptips firsttimemom infantdevelopment sleepybaby
