Why your hamstring stretch isn’t working ‼️ If you’re rounding through your spine when you stretch your hamstrings, you’re using a compensating pattern instead of actually isolating the tissue you’re trying to lengthen. When you lead with your shoulders and let your head drop, you’re moving through spinal flexion rather than hip flexion. Your body is taking the path of least resistance. To actually target your hamstrings: keep your chest up, maintain a neutral spine, and hinge from your hips. Think about leading with your sternum, not your shoulders. (Save this video for future reference 👍) Chronically tight hamstrings can impact your entire body, leading to foot and knee pain, hip and back pain, even tension headaches 😭 So, finding a doable way to easily begin releasing that tension (like this stretch!) is so important. Hamstring tendinopathy is when the tendon where your hamstring attaches to your sit bone gets irritated from repeated stress (running, lifting, or even long sitting). It feels like a deep ache under the butt—not a muscle tear—and improves with the right balance of strength + gradual loading. We recommend long duration hamstring isometrics for tendon remodeling and healing with these double and single leg hamstring bridge variations to start. 1. Double leg- moderate irritability (easier) 2. Single leg-lower irritability (harder) ☑️Dose: 3-5 x 30–45 sec holds with a 2 min rest in between. ☑️Frequency: Perform 2-3 times a day ***Keep pain levels no > than 3-4/10 during this exercise and no > 5/10 in a 24 hr window after performing. Standing Hamstring Stretch (Hip-Hinge Style) Set up Stand tall with feet hip-width. Put the target heel slightly in front of you (6–12 inches), toes up on the floor or on a low step. Keep both hips square and level. Brace & align Lightly brace your abs (as if preparing for a cough). Neutral spine: chest proud, shoulders down, long neck. Put a micro-bend (2–5°) in the target knee—never lock it. Hinge Shift 70–80% of your weight to the back leg. Push your hips straight back (hip hinge) while keeping your spine neutral. You should feel the stretch build in the back of the front thigh. Find the edge Stop when you hit a mild–moderate stretch (5–6/10). No pain, no tingling. Hold your position; breathe slowly through the nose. Hold & breathe Hold 20–40 seconds, 2–4 reps per side.
