Prone ham curls are great but…your hamstrings do more then just bend the knee. If you do anything active… ✅SAVE this.  Strong hamstrings help propel us forward, lift things, and move with speed! Hamstring strains make up a LARGE portion of sports injuries. 1/3 of hamstring strains will likely recur within the first 2 weeks of being back in play! In running, most hamstring strains happen during terminal swing, or when the leg is behind you. It has to be trained to properly handle high eccentric load to stay safe. Eccentric strength is the strength required to decelerate. ⚡️They need to be strong, but also need to be flexible. A lot of hamstring strains happen when the hip is flexed and knee is extended, often seen in dancing or kicking. So while bridges and hamstring curls are great exercises, they should not be the ONLY exercises. 🎖Honorable mentions: kickstand/SL RDL, seated tantrums, Nordic ham curls!! ⬇️Here's are some options to load up the hamstrings in different ways, where the hip is moving on a fixed knee, or vice versa. 1️⃣ Bridge + walkout 2️⃣ Multiangle SL bridge hip 3️⃣ tempo kicks + resisted drags 4️⃣ 1/2 kneel slides [+resistance] ⚠️ None of these should hurt. Variability in training this muscle is important to prepare it for al the cool things it does for us. Play with positioning, tempo, volume, and load! Don’t forget about NERVE mobility. TRAIN your hamstrings in a variety of ways to match your sport📌 Strong hamstrings help propel us forward, lift things, and move with speed! They are primary knee FLEXORS and secondary hip extensors. They work closely with the glutes to help hip and knee function. Hamstring strains are especially common in high-speed movements running, jumping, kicking, and/or explosive lower extremity movements with rapid changes in direction, including lifting objects from the ground. Strains are COMMON and typically require a lot of time off from sport. Those with a prior hamstring strain have a 3.6x as high a chance of another 😬. A pro soccer team of 25 players is said to experience about 7 hamstring injuries in the season. Rehab and return to play must be carefully planned to help recondition this major muscle group. It has to be trained to properly handle high eccentric load to stay safe. Eccentric strength is the strength required to decelerate. They need to be strong in big ranges of motion. A lot of hamstring strains happen when the hip is flexed and knee is extended, often seen in dancing or kicking. Injuries are sooo frustrating but there is so much you can do to maintain strength and make your transition back to running smoother. Here are some things that helped me stay somewhat sane: 1. Single leg exercises Training the healthy leg does not just maintain strength, it actually helps the injured side too. Because of something called cross education, your central nervous system stimulates the opposite side, reducing atrophy and helping you come back stronger. E.g. single leg RDL, pistol squat, Copenhagen planks, glute kickbacks, hip thrust, Bulgarian split squats 2.Single leg/seated plyos You can still train explosivity in a modified way. E.g. seated med ball throws, single leg ploys 3. Seated leg exercises These are key for training the injured leg if you aren’t allowed to weight bear. E.g. hamstring curls, leg curl, hip adduction/abduction 4. Cross training My injuries helped me discover a love for different kinds of movement, whether it be pilates, biking, or swimming! Obviously check with your provider, but finding ways to adapt my routine instead of abandoning it was the biggest shift for me! #runninginjury #runner #sprinter #rehab #hyrox
