Implicit biases are attitudes and beliefs we have on an unconscious or subconscious level that shape the way we view the world — and people — around us. Unlike explicit bias, which refers to when we are consciously aware of our feelings and attitudes, implicit bias can seep into our worldview without us knowing. When it comes to race, implicit bias can have detrimental effects. Everybody has implicit biases and they can influence our behaviors and cause us to discriminate in spite of our best intentions, and this video is a great example of how those implicit biases can come to light in our everyday life. When we know better, we can do better ❤️ 🎥: @paigelayle #racisminamerica, #racismisreal, #racismisavirus, #stopracism, #antiracism, #racismsucks, #endracism, #racismstillexists, #saynotoracism, #implicitbias, #prejudice, #socialjustice, #equalityforall

“Unconscious bias” has become a convenient scapegoat for people to say, “It’s not me, it’s my unconscious mind making me think that.” Let’s be honest: bias is bias. Passing it off as unconscious doesn’t absolve responsibility.

Exposure to biases begins early, and it takes teachers who understand the problem to fix it. A study from the Yale Child Center showed how implicit biases can manifest in the classroom, especially when it comes to discipline. Programs like Teach For America are paving the way for training leaders who want to create a more inclusive future for all children. #TeachforAmericaPartner #education #teachers #implicitbias

One of the major issues with the age of information is that, despite having access to a multitude of data avenues, a lot of us tend to engage with what we know and like. Unintentionally, we end up creating echo chambers where our beliefs rebound against our conscience and hence, disrupt our pursuit of the truth! #philosophy #bias #confirmationbias #thinking #explore

#SmarterInSeconds: You don’t “see” race? That just means you ignore the reality and severity of racism. Claim to be “colorblind”? That’s an ableist misnomer. Colorblindness is a medical diagnosis, not an excuse to ignore racism. Critical Race Theory allows us to examine and name the fact that institutions in the United States were not created to be “race neutral” or “race blind” but were actually created to reinforce and maintain racial hierarchies that place whiteness at the top. Don’t believe the hype, the end of affirmative action doesn’t mean that “colleges can no longer consider race,” it guarantees that racist bias will dictate admissions. 🤔💭👇🏼 Let’s have a discussion in the comments! Tell me about how you’re feeling in light of the recent #SCOTUS decision? Would it be helpful I did a Smarter in Seconds on Affirmative Action? Let me know!

Confirmation bias is a prevalent cognitive phenomenon that influences how individuals process information. This tendency leads people to actively seek out, or interpret, data and experiences that align with their preexisting beliefs, often sidelining or dismissing information that contradicts them. This unconscious bias can significantly skew decision-making, making it crucial to cultivate a mindset that focuses on positivity and growth. It’s important to consciously choose to reflect on thoughts that uplift us—thoughts that are good, encouraging, peaceful, loving, and kind. Visualizing success and anticipating victories in our endeavors can empower us to achieve our goals. Additionally, embracing conversations with those who hold different viewpoints can expand our understanding and challenge our biases. By maintaining a positive attitude, practicing discipline, exercising patience, and remaining focused on our aspirations, we can actively attract more positivity into our lives. This mindset not only enriches our personal experiences but also helps us recognize and nurture the goodness that exists in the world around us. #investment #business #entrepreneurship #confirmationbias #focus #discipline #strongrelationships #family #legacy #trust #belief #growth #success #wealth
