A simple test that will surprise you about your strength and muscle control. Try slowing down your next exercise. Moving slowly through a movement is one of the most challenging things you can do. When you remove momentum, you remove the ability to cheat - every muscle has to work and every joint has to stabilize. Slow movement forces your nervous system to create detailed motor programs and coordinate hundreds of muscles in perfect sequence. You’ll discover weak spots you didn’t know existed and positions where you lose control. The benefits? Better joint stability, improved muscle control, enhanced mind-muscle connection, and strength through your entire range of motion. Try this tempo: 5 seconds down, 2-second pause, 3 seconds up. Your joints will be bulletproof. #functionalfitness #jointstability #musclecontrol #movebetterlivebetter #trainforlife #movestrong

Even with 2.01 being short of her 2.10 world record, these are some of the cleanest mechanics I’ve seen from Mahuchikh. So much of elastic movement is creating energy via falling motions, getting limbs in position and recycling that energy well. Where “pre tense muscles before takeoff!” Is very “yang” energy, doesn’t work when taken literally, and is already built in the system, working the precise yielding motions of the skeleton is what really makes jumping alive and fluid. (This is also built in the system, and improves with plyometric training, as well as natural pretensioning). Beyond these “outer” mechanics, there is also a grace of movement that comes with dance that tends to go unnoticed. #highjump #plyometric #jumptraining

Many people start to lose their ability to rebound and generate elastic recoil as they age. Movements like running and jumping become harder to do without feeling heavy, slow, or painful. A lack of proper training is often what leads to this breakdown. Elastic recoil is how the body stores and releases energy. It helps your muscles push and pull your bones through impact, and the fascia guides that force through the entire body. When these systems are working well, tissues stay hydrated and responsive, which helps you stay athletic and capable over time. Juggling is not just a trick. It is one of the fastest ways to wake up your visual system. When you juggle, you activate the cerebellum. This area of the brain controls coordination, timing, and error detection. It helps your body make constant micro adjustments so your movements stay accurate. That is why juggling is often used as a visual warm up for athletes. But coordination alone is not enough for game performance. In competition, your cortex becomes the master decision center. You are reading the play, predicting your opponent, and deciding what to do next in fractions of a second. So we combine vision with decision making. Here is a simple drill. Attach numbers to movements. 1 sprint 2 back pedal 3 left 4 right Call the numbers randomly while the athlete reacts instantly. Then change the actions attached to each number. This forces the brain to process new information instead of memorizing patterns. Now the cortex must see, process, and act under pressure. This is how you train true game speed. Many athletes think they are fast. Very few actually measure how fast their decisions are. Comment DSI if you want to test your Decision Speed Index and get a baseline neurovisual evaluation done virtually. #sportsvision #reactiontime #visiontraining #athletetraining #sportsscience athleteperformance mentalperformance coaches collegeathletes youthsports trainingdrills sportsdevelopment

Here are some training clips of Patrik Sjoberg (2.42m PB) and Carlo Thranhardt (2.42m PB) back in 1985. Just because something is old, doesn’t mean it’s outdated. You can learn a thing or two from studying “old school” training methodologies (vs trying to find the newest fitness trend on TikTok). Eastern countries were far ahead of their time with training. Through years of (sometimes questionable) experimentation, they discovered the most effective means to develop explosive strength and how to program and periodize it within their athletes’ annual training plans. Here you can see many different methods utilized, such as multiple response squats and multi-impact squat jumps variations, which are often found at the end of weight room progressions as this is VERY intense loading of the SSC (most athletes will find they get back pain from all the shock loading), but a very effective means for developing RFD, amortization abilities, and exposing the athlete to high muscular tensions at faster velocities. You see traditional shock method using depth jumps, this time with an added “goal” of dunking the basketball. Having an external goal can elevate the effectiveness of the exercise as long as reactivity and explosiveness is still emphasized. And of course you have some acceleration work and high jump practice to develop specific technical coordination. ➡️ DM me “THP” to get a FREE 69 page ebook on how to jump higher (make sure you’re following so you can get the message!)

💥why it’s so powerful ⇩ The resisted push drill has historically been the BEST drill to eliminate the diving action through the penultimate stride… WHY is diving so bad for vertical jumping? When you dive, you throw a lot of your Center of mass well ahead of your plant foot. This behaviour reduces the time under tension on the plant foot and causes the block foot (last foot) to be used less efficiently. To be as simple as possible…YOU DON’T JUMP AS HIGH! If you’d like to overhaul your jump technique, comment “technique” and I’ll send you my 6-Week program which is on sale now! #jumptraining #volleyball #volleyballtraining #volleyballgirls #athleticperformance
