I don’t think we realize how much stimulus we get from dynamic athletic movements. Force = mass x acceleration. What people miss is that acceleration is actually highest when you act against momentum to stop or reverse direction quickly. A plyo contact is a prime example. In a brief moment, the body switches from falling down to popping up. So even though it’s just a body weight movement, incredibly high peak ground force and muscle/tendon tension occur during this type of contact. Heavy strength training does not have a monopoly on high muscular force. With that in mind and also with ~17 years of coaching experience in mind, I think we really sleep on sprinting, change of direction, jumping, and plyos as a form of strength training. Based on some opinions I’ve shared historically, people may think I’m not a believer in specific strength training. But truthfully I’m a huge proponent. I just think bounding is a much better version of it than 10cm step ups. Programs in bio. #jumptraining #plyos #trackandfield

No trending audios or music so that you can HEAR the difference. Landing mechanics matter!!!! Power is only half the skill (the easiest part imo). Being able to absorb force and land quietly means your joints, tendons, and muscles are actually controlling the movement instead of crashing into the ground!! Plus… if you’re supposed to be sneaking across rooftops, a loud landing kind of defeats the purpose. 😅🫠🫣🥷🏽🖤 Your quest begins here. Most people think jump training is a form of plyometrics. It’s not. If you train them the same… You’re leaving athleticism on the table. Jump training: Slower off the ground. More controlled. No pre-load… just pure concentric output. You’re building force from a dead stop. Plyometric training: Quick off the ground. Violent. Reactive. Built on the stretch reflex. You’re training your body to absorb and fire instantly. Same goal? Jump higher. Different methods? Completely. Neither is wrong. But if you don’t understand the difference… You won’t maximize either. Train with intent. ⚡️ #plyometrics #jumptraining #athleticperformance #verticaljump #explosiveness

It’s not just jumping high — it’s about how quickly you absorb and redirect force. #PlyometricTraining #JumpTraining #AthleteDevelopment #TrainWithIntent #ExplosivePower #SportsPerformance #SpeedAndPower #ReactiveStrength #PerformanceTips

As with many things in training, people complicate plyometrics. But a lot of great programs are built on simple jumps. In place jumps, bounds, hops, skips. The tool isn’t the point….the classification is. Extensive contacts build tolerance. Higher volume, lower intensity. Think pogo hops, rolling hops, power-speed drills Intensive jumps push force/reactivity. Lower volume, higher output. Think depth jumps, hurdle hops, single leg bounds Once you understand that difference, exercise selection gets a lot easier. You stop chasing the most impressive drill and start asking better questions. Where is the athlete in the training year? What can they recover from? What’s already in the program? That’s the framework behind Project Speed. It combines Speed Kills and The Art & Science of Sport Preparation and shows how sprinting, plyometrics, strength work, and conditioning actually fit together in a real program. If you want a clearer structure for developing speed, that’s exactly what it was built for. Link in bio. I’m also deep into writing the a new ebook right now. The more I work on it, the more obvious something becomes Most problems in training aren’t exercise problems…they’re decision making problems. #plyometricstraining #plyometrics #jumptraining #speedtraining #sprinting
