🫀 Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) — the most common form of heart disease and a leading cause of heart attacks. It occurs when the coronary arteries that supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked due to plaque buildup (atherosclerosis). Reduced blood flow can lead to angina, shortness of breath, and in severe cases myocardial infarction (heart attack). 🔬 Early recognition of risk factors like smoking, hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, and obesity can save lives. 📚 Every medical student and doctor must master the basics of CAD because timely diagnosis and management can prevent fatal complications. 💡 Prevention starts with lifestyle modification, early screening, and proper treatment. Systemic and Pulmonary circulation - The continuous journey of Life through Heart Deoxygenated blood from the legs, internal organs, arms, and head returns to the heart through two great veins - the Inferior Vena Cava from the lower body and the Superior Vena Cava from the upper body - entering the Right Atrium. It flows into the Right Ventricle, which pushes it through the Pulmonary Artery toward the lungs. In the lungs, blood releases carbon dioxide and absorbs fresh oxygen. This “recharged” blood now carries life again. It returns to the heart through the Pulmonary Veins, enters the Left Atrium, and moves into the powerful Left Ventricle - the chamber built to serve the entire body. With a forceful pump, the left ventricle sends this oxygen-rich blood into the Aorta, from where it splits into three great directions: upward to the head and brain, sideways to the arms, and downward to the organs and legs. In the brain, blood sustains thought, memory, and nerve control. In the arms, it powers movement, grip, and work. In the organs and legs, it fuels digestion, balance, walking, and survival. At the tiniest vessels - the capillaries - blood delivers oxygen and glucose, collects waste and carbon dioxide, turns dark again, and begins its return to the heart. This circulation never pauses, because the brain fades within minutes without oxygen, muscles collapse without energy, and organs fail without supply. The heart is the engine. Blood is the carrier. Vessels are the highways of life. . . . . . #BloodFlow #HeartToBody #PulmonaryCirculation #SystemicCirculation #RightAtrium #LeftVentricle #Aorta #VenaCava #OxygenCycle #GasExchange #Capillaries

We spend so much time looking for "symptoms" that we often miss the signs that our body is functioning perfectly. As a vascular surgeon, I look for specific markers that tell me your "internal piping" is in pristine condition. Some of them might surprise you. The "Vascular Victory" Checklist. How many do you have? 1️⃣ Hairy Toes: 🦶 Yes, really. Hair growth requires rich oxygenated blood. If your toes are hairy, your arterial flow is excellent. (Smooth, shiny toes are actually a sign of PAD!). 2️⃣ Visible Veins During Workouts: 💪 This is called "vasodilation." It means your vessels are flexible and expanding correctly to cool you down. 3️⃣ Pink Nail Beds: 💅 Squeeze your toenail. It should turn white, then snap back to pink in under 2 seconds. This is the "Capillary Refill" test. Fast is good. 4️⃣ You Pee Clear/Pale Yellow: 💧 Your blood viscosity is low, reducing the risk of clots. 5️⃣ No "Sock Rings": 🧦 When you take your socks off, your skin is smooth with no deep indentations. This means your venous return is fighting gravity successfully (no edema). 6️⃣ Warm Hands & Feet: 🔥 Your circulation is reaching the furthest extremities effectively. 7️⃣ Cuts Heal Quickly: 🩹 You scraped your leg, and it scabbed over fast. This means your blood is delivering nutrients and platelets efficiently. 8️⃣ You Don't Get Dizzy Standing Up: 😵‍💫 Your baroreceptors are working perfectly to adjust blood pressure against gravity (no orthostatic hypotension). 9️⃣ Resting Heart Rate < 75: ❤️ Your heart is efficient and doesn't have to overwork to pump blood. 🔟 You Can Walk Without Pain: 🚶‍♀️ You can walk a mile without your calves cramping (claudication). This is the #1 sign of healthy arteries. What is your score out of 10? I want to see who has the "Perfect 10" (and who has the hairy toes!). Let me know below! 👇 Want to keep your score high? Before any procedure on the hand or wrist, doctors check this first. It's called the Allen Test—a simple way to confirm both arteries supplying your hand are working. Here's how it works: squeeze your fist tight, then the doctor compresses both the radial and ulnar arteries at your wrist. When you open your hand, it's pale. Release one artery—if color rushes back within 5-7 seconds, that artery has good flow. Repeat for the other side. Quick, painless, and critical before drawing arterial blood or placing a radial line. ✅Follow @drdavidabbasi for More Daily Medical Content & Health Tips! 🌴😷Schedule a consultation to see Dr. Abbasi as a patient in Delray Beach! The carotid arteries are the main arteries that supply blood to the brain, neck, and face. There are two of them — the left and right common carotid arteries. Each one runs up the side of the neck. The right common carotid originates from the brachiocephalic artery, while the left comes directly off the aortic arch. As they ascend the neck, each common carotid artery divides into an internal and an external branch. The internal carotid artery travels deeper into the skull to supply the brain, while the external carotid artery supplies the face, scalp, jaw, and neck. Near the point where they divide, there’s a small swelling called the carotid sinus, which contains baroreceptors that help regulate blood pressure. These arteries are vital for brain function, and any blockage — such as in carotid artery disease — can lead to serious issues like strokes.

Coronary angioplasty and stent insertion are minimally invasive procedures used to restore blood flow in narrowed or blocked coronary arteries. Coronary arteries supply oxygen-rich blood to the heart muscle and can become narrowed due to plaque buildup, a condition called atherosclerosis. Reduced blood flow increases the risk of chest pain, shortness of breath, and heart attack. During angioplasty, a thin catheter is guided through a blood vessel to the blocked artery. A small balloon at the tip is inflated to compress plaque and widen the artery. A stent is then placed to keep the vessel open and prevent re-narrowing. This procedure improves blood flow to the heart, relieves symptoms, and lowers the risk of heart attack. Recovery is usually quick, with most patients returning home within a day while following medical instructions for care and activity.
