lifting straps are helpful for most people and I’d recommend using them in the gym even if you want stronger forearms. In the case you want bigger forearms do forearm specific training that’s more helpful than not using straps.

If you’re limited in how much you can lift due to grip strength or pain in your hands, lifting straps can be a useful tool. Training grip strength is important too though, so as with any tool, I don’t recommend over-relying on it.

What is the best grip for training back? Could only be one winner 🏆 3rd one was close tho. Straps aren’t for everyone, if you prefer to not use them, then fine 👍. However, making the change to straps did wonders for me.

Drop the handle when doing lateral raises. ❌ The Reality: Most people clench a d-handle as hard as they can, which sends a signal to the brain to recruit the neck and traps for stability. I am guilty of this too. I used to use the d-handle every workout, but I never felt my delts working as much as they should. My neck always felt tighter than my shoulders. The Idea (The Lifting Strap Hack): If you want to isolate the side delt, you have to remove the grip. You can use your lifting straps to create a cuff around your forearm. They aren’t expensive and they can be used for other exercises. This removes the need to squeeze a handle and forces the side delt to move the weight as a pure lever. By shifting the pulley to hip height, you maximize the tension exactly where the muscle is most capable of producing force. 1. The Setup: Set your cable pulley to hip height. This ensures the cable is pulling at a 90 degree angle right at the start of the move where the side delt is most stretched. 2. The Hack: Loop your lifting strap through the cable hook to create a cuff. Slip your forearm through and keep your hand completely open. 3. The Move: Lead with your elbow and raise the weight. Because your hands are relaxed, your side delts have to handle 100 percent of the load. The Result: Pure side delt isolation without the neck pain. This is the smartest way to build width using the gear already in your bag. The Question: Be honest: did you know you could use a lifting strap as a cuff? 🧐👇 My Mission: I am documenting every lesson I learn to lift safer and smarter over 40. Follow for more hacks or share this with someone who is still squeezing the handle! 🤝 #shoulderworkout #gymhacks #fitover40 #smartlifting #delts

Lifting Straps If you’re not using lifting straps in 2026. You’re not taking your back training seriously. Your back muscles are way stronger than your grip, so you’ll never reach muscular failure when your forearms give out first. And no using lifting straps is not cheating. Here’s how to use lifting straps correctly, which I often see done incorrectly in the gym. Thread the strap around the machine and make sure it’s going in the opposite direction of your hand.
Make sure it’s super tight, and you won’t have to worry about grip fatiguing anymore. If you found this little tip helpful Drop me a follow @davidreececoaching for daily training tips that actually get results.
