Toddlers stop having daily tantrums and meltdowns when you start doing this: preparing them for what’s to come. When you take the time to prep your kids before each activity, they know what to expect and can go with the flow. Create a home environment that supports their need for structure and predictability. Allow plenty of time for transitions, so you can approach each moment with patience and understanding. Here’s how it works: 1. Preparation: Talk to your child about what’s going to happen next. Whether it’s getting ready for a trip to the store, transitioning from playtime to dinner, or preparing for bedtime, let them know what to expect. 2. Environment: Set up a home environment that’s organized and predictable. A space where toys have designated places, routines are clear, and daily activities follow a consistent pattern helps children feel secure. 3. Time: Allow extra time for transitions. Rushing can create stress and frustration for both you and your child. With extra time, you can approach each change with calmness and patience, reducing the likelihood of meltdowns. By preparing your child, creating a supportive environment, and allowing enough time for transitions, you’ll find that daily tantrums diminish, and your toddler will navigate their day with more ease and joy. It’s all about helping them feel secure, understood, and prepared for what’s next. #meltdowns #tantrums #toddlertantrums #tantrum #throwingfitsparentingtips

If your child with ADHD is melting down every day, that’s not “just ADHD.” It’s their nervous system calling for help. Daily meltdowns are a red flag for chronic stress, sensory overload, and unmet emotional needs. They’re not something to “fix” or “discipline” away, they’re communication. Many parents have been told this is normal, so they adapt. They tiptoe through the day, avoiding triggers, hoping to make it to bedtime without another explosion. But meltdowns aren’t something to adapt to. They’re something to understand. They tell you exactly when and where your child’s system is overwhelmed and what needs attention now. If meltdowns are running your home, it’s not your parenting or a child that needs fixing, it’s a nervous system that needs support. Awareness is the first step toward change. Once you see the message beneath the meltdown, you can finally start creating calm from chaos. *note: this is a very enthusiastic re-enactment from an eager actor and not a real meltdown on film 😉 #adhd #adhdcoach #ADHDParenting #adhdtips #adhdmom #chaostocalm #adhdsupport #adhdawareness #adhdparent #meltdown

Here’s the thing about emotionally intense kids ⬇️ They feel SO. MUCH. SHAME. And when you respond to your child’s behaviors without seeing the struggling kid underneath – by lecturing, debriefing the meltdown, punishing, or circling back to “teach them”) – you create MORE shame and less resilience. Because shame literally blocks learning – it blocks a child’s ability to do something BETTER with their big feelings the next time. ItI’s so important to see the good kid THROUGH the tough behaviors – to get curious and meet the needs that are causing these behaviors in the first place. In my daughter’s case, she needed to release pent-up emotions, and at 3.5, she didn’t have the awareness to do this in a better way. Had she done anything unsafe (like hitting), I would have set a boundary and stopped her. But in this case, her unkind words (and spit, though she was nowhere close enough to hit me with it) were just how her intense feelings were flying out of her body at that moment. Every time you choose to give your child the space to (safely) express their emotions – like I did in this moment – you build emotion regulation and resilience, one hard moment at a time. ✨Want to learn more about how to help your child break out of the cycle of endless meltdowns and learn to do the right things with their big feelings? Meltdowns are intense reactions to being overwhelmed. They're not simply tantrums, they are involuntary responses to sensory overload, anxiety, or frustration. When a child opens an ice cream and finds it melted, it can trigger a meltdown due to: 1️⃣ Sensory Overload 2️⃣ Heightened Anxiety 3️⃣ Communication Difficulties Comment below if you experience this with your child! 🚸 [ Fragile X, Autism, Sensory Overload, Heightened Anxiety, Frustration, Meltdowns, Fragile X India ] #FragileXIndia #FragileXSyndrome #Meltdowns

Everyone thinks tantrums need more talking… they don’t. Most moms aren’t doing anything wrong. They’re just trying to logic with a brain that isn’t online. When your child is overwhelmed, their nervous system is in survival mode. That means no reasoning, no processing, no “use your words.” Just big feelings… in a body that doesn’t know what to do with them. So when we jump straight to explaining, correcting, or even labeling feelings… it can actually keep them stuck there longer. The shift is this: Stop trying to reach their thoughts… and start supporting their nervous system. That might look like: • playfulness • distraction • a change in environment • your calm presence Not because you’re ignoring the feeling… but because you’re helping their body feel safe enough to come out of it. And that’s when the teaching actually lands. Calm isn’t something they find on their own yet… it’s something they borrow from you. Than you to this mamma @hewoitsange for sharing this. Save this for the next meltdown 💚🩷 And send it to a mom who’s trying so hard to “do it right” #meltdowns #emotionalregulation #mindfulparentingmoments #mindfulmotherhood #coregulation

I call this the foot in the door technique. I used it a LOT when she was younger to transition away from the park, a playdate, or to get ready for bed. This works because you’re connecting with your child first in something that interests them rather than saying “Hey, time to clean up!” The key is to get them to come over to you so they are walking away from their play space. Once you get them to stop what they’re doing and take interest in what you’re showing them or talking about, the hard part’s already done. Will this work for every kid? No. But I hope it works for at least one of you liike it worked for us! If you missed it, this week we’re talking about transitions and how to minimize the stress they cause for our kids. Tantrums take a toll. They’re exhausting, draining, and totally defeating for us as parents. 🌪 And yet, 2 minutes after the meltdown, your toddler snaps back, just like that. Wanting to play, wanting your hugs, wanting to be happy again. 🤯 It isn’t easy, but right after a meltdown, try to let it go. 🧘🏽‍♀️ Take a deep breath and exhale the resentment, anger, and tension. Show your kid that you still love them, that you’re still there, no matter how big of feelings they have. Remember, all feelings are ok. All behaviors are not. ✨The feeling is OK. The behavior is not.✨ If the situation warrants it (ie, there was kicking, or other less desirable behavior), you can coach and connect at a later time, when everyone is calm: ✨“You were having a tough moment earlier today. It’s okay to feel mad, it’s not okay to hit someone. Here are some things you can do instead of hitting when you’re feeling mad” ✨ Reconnect and show them you love them no matter what. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ ✨Tantrums, meltdowns, and discipline can be downright confusing. Our course is here to help! We teach you how to handle your kid's meltdowns, how to discipline in a way that WORKS, all while protecting their self worth and emotional resiliency. Ever notice how your child can hold it together all day… then completely unravel the second they get home? You’re not imagining it. And it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. Kids use a ton of mental energy to behave at school—focusing, following rules, managing emotions. By the time they’re home, that system is tapped out. So where does it all come out? With the person they feel safest with. That meltdown isn’t manipulation… it’s release. What helps: – Give them 15–30 min to decompress (snack, quiet time, no demands) – Stay calm first, correct later – Don’t take it personally—it’s not about you Paradoxically, being their “safe place” means you sometimes get their hardest moments. Does this happen in your house too?👇 #Parenting #parents #childdevelopment

Ahhh....Sound familiar? How would you respond to your college student or teen in this moment? Hmmm....maybe... "What? Are you kidding me?" "You missed another assignment?" "I'm so sick of this!" Do you think these responses are helpful, encouraging, or supportive? Nope. Are you frustrated with the situation? Of course you are! But...do you think they already feel bad about it? Absolutely! You guilting and shaming them doesn't help. They already know they messed up. What might be a better response? "Oh no! I can feel your frustration. I can so relate. How can I help you? How can I support you?" Want more tips? Look out for my Stories later today. Want more in depth strategies? Then, register now for my upcoming class It's called....
