If you are a current Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) student or recently graduated from an ADN or ASN program and want to become a nurse practitioner, this post is for you🙌🏼 Regardless of where you are in your nursing journey, congratulations. Nursing is such an incredibly fulfilling, albeit challenging, field of work within the healthcare industry and you are on your way to changing so many lives👏🏼✨🩺 If you dream of becoming a nurse practitioner, here is how to reach your goal: 1. Pass National Licensure Council Examination (NCLEX) to become a registered nurse (RN) after completing your ADN or ASN program 2. Reflect on your professional goals like the patient population you want to work with (e.g. pediatrics, adults, women,  etc.) and what care environment you want to work in (e.g. inpatient vs. outpatient) to ultimately help you decide what specialty you want to pursue as an NP  3. Choose between either a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. Both will prepare you to take your board examination to become an NP. 4. Decide if you want to work prior to returning to school to obtain your Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and/or if you want to work during your RN-BSN program 5. Graduate from an RN-BSN program and receive your BSN 6. Begin researching NP programs based on factors important to you such as location, cost, format of program (e.g. in-person, hybrid, remote), ability to go part-time, etc. 7. Begin researching application requirements and collecting necessary documents (e.g. transcripts, letters of recommendation) for the programs you chose 8. Reach out to admissions staff at the programs you are applying to for clarification on application requirements you are unsure of 9. Pay close attention and monitor application deadlines to ensure you submit your application on time Hopefully you find this checklist helpful in getting started on your journey to becoming an NP!🎉 Feel free to save and share with others you believe it may help🤗 #nursepractitionerstudent #nursepractitioner #NPschool #futureNP #registerednurse #nursesofinstagram

HERE 👇🏼 🎯 Is it worth it to be a Nurse Practitioner in 2025? Let’s talk about it. The short answer? Yes — but only if you go in informed. The landscape for advanced practice providers is changing, and while opportunities still exist, success depends on having the right mindset and strategy. Here are 6 things you need to consider before making the leap: 👇 1️⃣ Don’t pursue this career for the salary alone. Compensation varies widely by specialty, region, and setting. If your only motivation is income, you may be disappointed. This role requires passion, clinical judgment, and grit. 2️⃣ Know your specialty before applying. Family, acute care, psych, women’s health — each track prepares you differently. Get clear on the population you want to serve so your education aligns with your goals. 3️⃣ One of the biggest perks? Lateral mobility. NPs can shift between settings and specialties more easily than many other providers. This flexibility is a major long-term advantage. 4️⃣ You’ll have a chance to create real impact. NPs often serve underserved populations, expand access to care, and bring a unique nursing perspective to complex systems. It’s about more than writing prescriptions. 5️⃣ You may need to be open to relocation. In saturated markets, new grad NPs often face job scarcity. Being flexible with geography can open doors and accelerate your early career. 6️⃣ Choose a reputable school — no exceptions. Strong clinical placements, quality instruction, and respected faculty matter. Don’t risk your future on convenience over credibility. ✨ Bottom line: It’s still a rewarding and viable path — but it’s not the same as it was a decade ago. Be thoughtful. Be strategic. And most of all, be committed. . . . . . . . . #crna #nursepractitioners #np #fnp #np #icunurse

another DIML as a nurse practitioner student 👩🏻‍⚕️🩺🫶🏼 today i’m sharing something i’ve struggled with — imposter syndrome. it’s not an uncommon experience as i can imagine it’s a common experience for you all too. for me, my biggest struggle with it is tied with a fear of failing. however something i’m learning to overcome is understanding that it’s better to try afraid than not try at all as it truly builds endurance & resilience. even if it was incredibly difficult and you struggled to get through it (the season, the program, the new job), i am certain you left learning something new and growth is always invaluable in my opinion 🫶🏼 #nursing #nursepractitioner #nursepractitionerstudent #nursepractitionerlife #studentlife #clinic #familymedicine #nursepractitionersofinstagram #medicine #healthcare

Being a Nurse Practitioner (NP) is not the only route you can take when pursuing your Masters of Science in Nursing. Here’s some other degree choices: 1. Clinical Nurse Specialist: A clinical nurse specialist (CNS) is an APRN who specializes in diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing patient health management. 2. Clinical Nurse Leader: Clinical nurse leaders oversee nursing care in hospitals and other healthcare settings. They monitor overall patient outcomes, specifying changes as necessary. 3. Certified Nurse Midwife: Certified nurse midwives (CNMs) are APRNs who care for pregnancy and childbirth. They are permitted to oversee births, including home births 4. Certified Nurse Anesthetist: Certified registered nurse anesthetists (CRNAs) are the highest paid APRNs. They administer anesthesia during medical procedures and provide pain management afterward. 5. Nurse Educator: Nurse educators primarily teach in nursing schools and healthcare organizations like hospitals and health systems. 6. Nursing Administrator: Nurse administrators generally work in hospitals or health systems, although many work for insurance companies, government agencies, or clinics. 7. Nursing Informatics Specialist: Nursing informatics is a growing field that uses information science, data analytics, and technology to improve nursing quality or efficiency. 8. Nurse Researcher: Nurse researchers typically work at academic medical centers like research and teaching hospitals. They can also be employed by companies that conduct medical research, such as pharmaceutical or medical equipment companies. 9.Public Health Nurse: Public health nurses specialize in disease prevention, especially communicable diseases. They often educate the public or stakeholders on health and disease, including proper hygiene and sanitation practices. 10.Community health nurse: Community health nurses and public health nurses both educate the public and stakeholders on health and disease prevention. Community health nurses are likely to provide members of the public with healthcare and to emphasize both communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

I chose to become a family nurse practitioner because of the incredible versatility this degree offers. As a family nurse practitioner, I’m not limited to working in just one area or with one type of patient - I have the freedom to care for individuals of all ages and backgrounds, in almost any healthcare setting I choose. When I was younger, I was drawn to many areas of healthcare and didn’t want to close the door to any of them. I didn’t know exactly where I’d want to focus, or if I even wanted to specialize at all, and this path has given me the flexibility to explore a wide range of experiences and challenges. In the past few years, I’ve debated about going back to get a psych mental health or a women’s health certification but have yet to do it. Whatever my future holds, I currently have the opportunity to weave aspects of mental health, women’s health, and so many other specialties into my current practice. . . . . . 👚: @hypothesis_scrubs

✨ Thinking About Applying to FNP School? Read This First! ✨ Before you hit “submit” on that application, here are 3️⃣ BIG things to consider to make sure you’re setting yourself up for success! 📚 1️⃣ Time Commitment & Work-Life Balance ⏳⚖️ FNP school is no joke—most programs take 2-3 years to complete, and between coursework, assignments, and clinicals, it’s like working TWO full-time jobs! 🫠💼 👉🏼Planning to work while in school? Consider if you can afford to drop your hours when clinicals kick in. Some students keep their full-time jobs, but let’s be real… that can get brutal fast. 💀 2️⃣ Choosing the Right Program 🎓✅ Not all FNP programs are created equal! Make sure your school is regionally & nationally accredited (CCNE or ACEN) AND has strong pass rates for the ANCC/AANP exams. 🚨 Also, BIG TIP from someone who had to find their own preceptors—check if your program helps with clinical placements & preceptors! 🔍 Some schools leave it all up to you (which can be a NIGHTMARE 😩), while others have established preceptor connections to make the process smoother. This can literally make or break your experience, so don’t overlook it! 3️⃣ Job Market & Career Goals 💡📈 Ask yourself: What do you really want from your NP degree? Take on advanced roles/responsibilities? Work with a specific patient population? More money (tip: this isn’t always the case starting out!) These answers matter EARLY ON because FNP is NOT a “one-size-fits-all” degree! 👀 If you want to work in hospital settings, critical care, psych, or pediatrics, another NP specialty (ACNP, PMHNP, PNP, etc.) might be a better fit for you. Assess market value for these positions, too. Do your research now so you don’t regret your decision later! 🚀 💬 Drop a comment—what’s your biggest question about FNP school? 👇🏼 And tag a friend who needs to see this! ✨ Good luck, future NPs! 🫶🏼 - #FNPPractice #BoardPrep #FNPExam #NursePractitioner #FamilyNursePractitioner #NPschool #NPstudent #FNPstudent #npsofinstagram #newgradnp #npboardexam #ANCC #AANP #nursepractitionerschool #npboards #nurses #nursing #NPlife #scrublife

Same passion, different practices — this is what sets Registered Nurses and Nurse Practitioners apart and what brings them together. 👩‍⚕️🤩 Nurse Practitioner Rebecca and Registered Nurse Margie are both at the Caloundra Minor Injury and Illness Clinic on the Sunshine Coast. While they both have nurse in their title — their roles are quite different. Rebecca’s advanced training allows her to diagnose and manage medical conditions, prescribe medications, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and refer patients to specialists. As a Registered Nurse, Margie is the clinic’s frontline, assessing and triaging patients while ensuring everything runs smoothly. Two roles, both essential to delivering exceptional care! Thank you both for sharing a little of what you do with us. 🤗
