Have you ever wondered why Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is more common today? The answer might be in your gut. Here’s the connection: 🧠 The Gut-Brain Link Your gut and brain are closely connected. Most of your serotonin (the “feel-good” chemical) is made in your gut. So, when your gut isn’t healthy, it can affect your mood, causing anxiety and symptoms of OCD. 🔬 Gut Imbalance & OCD When your gut bacteria are out of balance, it causes inflammation that can impact your brain. This imbalance can lead to anxiety, obsessive thoughts, and other mental health issues. ⚖️ Inflammation Affects Your Brain Chronic inflammation from poor gut health can damage brain function, which can make OCD symptoms worse. If you’re struggling with OCD, addressing gut health can be a game-changer. Eating a clean diet, taking probiotics, and reducing inflammation can help calm your mind and balance your gut. 💥 Want to learn how to improve your gut health for better mental well-being? Comment “GUIDE” below, and I’ll send you my FREE guide on how gut health affects your brain and mood! #OCD #GutHealth #MentalHealth #FunctionalMedicine #GutBrainConnection

Disclaimer: this is not medical advice, and this is not me saying you should ignore your health symptoms. If something feels medically urgent, you should always seek emergency services when you feel it’s necessary. Recently, I went to the hospital for something that was actually happening, and for the first time since my OCD started… I didn’t panic. I didn’t spiral. I didn’t mentally jump ten steps ahead. What changed wasn’t the situation—it was how my brain responded without even trying!! I really attribute that moment to ICBT. I was able to stay anchored in what my senses were actually telling me in the here and now: what I could see, what my common sense said, and who I know myself to be—without letting OCD turn it into a story about catastrophe. I wasn’t arguing with fear, I just wasn’t letting imagined explanations override reality. And ERP showed up in a quieter way. I didn’t need to know how it would turn out. Since there was uncertainty I didn’t need reassurance about the future. I let the unknown exist without trying to fix it. That moment wasn’t about being “cured” or fearless. It was about realizing all the work I’ve been doing has paid off by me being able to use tools without even trying—even in places that used to be major triggers. So this is your reminder to keep doing the work and show up for yourself because I never would’ve imagined the situation like that would happen to me and I would be fairly anxiety free. 🌻 Follow @obsessivelystrong for more OCD and related content 🌻 Link in the bio for OCD and mental health stickers! No one really talks about the mental load of bladder symptoms. It’s not just the urgency 🚽 It’s the constant planning. The anxiety. The scanning for bathrooms. The “just in case” thoughts running in the background. That mental load matters. And over time, it can actually contribute to symptoms sticking around. Bladder symptoms aren’t just physical—they’re shaped by stress, attention, and how much your system is on high alert. If this resonates with you: 💬 Comment “BLADDER” and let’s connect 💛 You’re not imagining it—and you don’t have to carry this alone. #bladderhealth #bladderurgency #urinaryfrequency #overactivebladder #bladderanxiety

OCD plus BDD. Body Dysmorphic Disorder. Body Dysmorphic Disorder is when you have chronic anxiety and insecurity about a perceived appearance flaw – and you drastically over index to minor or imaginary flaws. If you have both BDD and OCD – your compulsive behaviors usually revolve around your perceived physical flaws. You may get stuck mirror checking, grooming, reassurance seeking about how you look, skin picking, or camouflaging. BDD gets amplified by OCD, which might demand symmetry and perfection. OCD likes to add even more precise, impossible standards to BDD. When my BDD was active, I spent years compulsively mirror checking and camouflaging the birth defect on my ear, measuring my nose, and getting reassurance about my stomach. In one of my first videos on this channel, I got a troll comment about my nose being big, and my OCD + BDD definitely wanting me to shut down @letstalk.ocd. The treatment again, I’m a broken record, is Exposures. Honestly, this channel and being a mental health advocate is what actually broke my BDD cycle. I have to look at stills of myself from every which angle and can’t let my anxiety about appearance flaws take me out of my value system, which is to spread the word about OCD treatment to anyone who will listen. When we do what we want, despite the loud thoughts, we take back our power, from the BDD and from the OCD.#bodydysmorphia #bodydysmorphicdisorder #ocdtherapist #bodydysmorphiarecovery #bodydysmorphiaawareness

When you’re trying to fall asleep but OCD says, “Wait… better Google one more symptom.” 😅 If you’ve ever spiraled into late-night health searches, contamination fears, or reassurance Googling, you’re not alone. OCD loves uncertainty, and it often shows up strongest when your brain finally slows down at night. Reassurance seeking (like symptom Googling) can feel helpful in the moment, but it usually keeps OCD stuck in the loop long-term. Real healing often involves learning how to tolerate uncertainty instead of trying to eliminate it. If this is you, you’re not broken — your brain is trying to protect you, just in an overprotective way. ✨ Recovery is possible✨ ERP therapy helps break the OCD cycle✨ You can learn to sit with uncertainty without letting it control you Save this if nighttime OCD spirals are relatable 💛 #OCD #OCDRecovery #ExposureResponsePrevention #ERPtherapy #AnxietyRecovery ContaminationOCD HealthAnxiety

If you’ve ever felt embarrassed or isolated because of bladder symptoms, I want you to hear this 💛 👉 You are not alone. 👉 This is a very common experience—even though no one talks about it. 👉 And you do not have to “just live with it.” Bladder symptoms can make people withdraw, stay quiet, and feel like they’re the only one dealing with this… but that’s simply not true. If this is resonating with you: 💬 Comment “BLADDER” and let’s connect. Fiber gummies aren’t a magic fix. For some kids, adding fiber to a backed-up gut just makes things bigger, harder, and more painful. There’s no one-size-fits-all in pediatric GI. We treat the kid in front of us. Save this. Share it with the 7 a.m. gummy negotiator. Deep breaths. Unclench. Your OCD might not just be about anxiety. It might be about timing. If your brain doesn’t let you fall asleep until 1, 2, or 3am… that’s not just a “bad habit.” It can be a shifted body clock. And research shows something important: People with OCD who have delayed sleep timing tend to have: • More severe symptoms • Greater treatment resistance • Higher levels of glutamate in the anterior cingulate cortex — the brain’s “something’s wrong” alarm center In simple terms: When your internal clock runs late, it may turn up the volume on the OCD alarm system. This doesn’t mean sleep causes OCD. But for some people, circadian rhythm may be part of what keeps it stuck. So if therapy or medication hasn’t worked the way you hoped, it might be worth asking: 👉 Is my sleep timing part of this? Sleep isn’t just about rest. For some people with OCD, it may be part of treatment. #mentalhealth #ocd #mentalhealthmatters #anxiety #mentalhealthawareness

Medical facility appointments are still very triggering for my contamination OCD. I had one last week. I thought that would be it, but I have to go back. My contamination OCD is already talking to me and warning me about "all of the potential cross contamination from my shoes and clothes". I will go to work afterwards. I'll need to sit with the physical sensations that will happen and try to stay distracted from my OCD brain. Not gonna lie; I will be looking forward to getting home to shower.
