CABe prepared to lower your expectations 😞 C. Budd Bayliff, an Ohio-based customizer, purchased the Packard trademark in 1978. His company, Bayliff Coach Corporation, produced neoclassical cars by modifying contemporary luxury models like the Buick Riviera and Cadillac DeVille with Packard-inspired grilles and trim.
In 1992, Bayliff sold the trademark for 50,000 dollars to Roy Gullickson, a Canadian engineer. Gullickson, along with his business partner and fellow engineer Lawrence Johnson, formed the Packard Motor Car Company in Arizona. They moved beyond replicas, developing a functional, high-performance prototype called the Packard Twelve in the late 1990s. This all-aluminum luxury sedan featured a Falconer V12 engine. However, despite seeking 10 million dollars in investment, the venture never entered production.
In 2019, the trademark and approximately 135,000 original engineering blueprints were purchased by Scott Andrews, a luxury watchmaker. He established Packard Motors in Warren, Ohio—the brand’s original birthplace. Andrews aims to produce exact reproductions of classic 1930s Packard Victorias using modern engines and materials, while also leveraging the brand for luxury goods like high-end watches to fund the automotive revival. #packard #hiddenhistory #landyacht

BRAmerica’s answer to the Rolls-Royce
This 1934 Packard Twelve is a Series 1108 example clothed in Dietrich Individual Custom Convertible Sedan coachwork and is said to have been sold new via Earle C. Anthony’s Los Angeles showroom. Car number 1108-26 was purchased from the estate of a Florida and New Hampshire steward by a Connecticut collector who retained it for 30 years before it was purchased by the Andrews Collection. A subsequent refurbishment performed between 2009 and 2010 by Steve Babinsky in Lebanon, New Jersey, included a repaint in Dark Auburn, a re-trim of the interior in tan leather, and an overhaul of the 445.5ci L-head V12. It’s listed now on BaT!
Following completion of the project the car won its class at the 2010 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and an Amelia Award at the 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance before winning a CCCA Senior Award in 2012 and later appearing in the 2016 film Live By Night. Additional features include a dual-throat downdraft carburetor, a three-speed manual transmission, mechanically actuated drum brakes with variable vacuum assistance, adjustable ride-control suspension, 17” wire wheels, dual side-mount spares, a V-shaped windshield, a fold-down rear luggage rack, a tan convertible top, and a roll-up glass passenger compartment partition.
