POV: being the sample under someone else’s scope knowing I’m getting the best diagnosis possible 👀 For the last five years, I’ve looked at many samples under the microscope. This week, I had the unique experience of being on the other side. I WAS the sample under someone else’s microscope. And that made me think. When we’re sick, we go to a doctor, who then orders tests to be run. In a lot of cases, they’ll take a biopsy. That biopsy will be sent to a lab, analyzed, and the results will be given to your doctor, who then passes them on to you. You start a treatment plan, and you (hopefully) get better. All the praise for your successful recovery goes to the doctor who treated you. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that clinicians who treat patients don’t deserve praise. They ABSOLUTELY do. But have you ever thought about what goes on in between your biopsy or test and the results? That’s where pathology staff— pathologists, pathologist’s assistants, medical lab technicians— all come in and determine what your biopsy really is. And patients never thank them because no one really knows that they’re there. I’ve seen first hand how much work goes into processing that little biopsy in the pathology suite. The PAs work tirelessly cataloging measurements, dictating notes, and prepping things for the pathologist. I’ve seen first hand how meticulous the pathologists are when they’re reviewing a case to make sure they don’t miss any clues indicating a different diagnosis. All that hard work is translated into a report that helps your doctor with the treatment plan. It’s really a thankless job. But they don’t do it for the praise. They do it because of the feeling they get when a cancer is diagnosed correctly, and they save someone’s life. They do it because of the closure they give a family after an unexplained death. They do it because they, too, love helping people. So, I’m saying thank you to all the incredible pathology staff on behalf of everyone who will never know to do so. They’re heroes behind the microscope making sure we get answers.♥️ • • • #pathology #histologylab #pathologylab #pathologist #pathologistsassistant #histology #histotech

What do you look for in a medical school if you’re interested in forensic pathology? 🩺 My best advice: med school is already hard, the most important factors are things that make your life easier! ⚡️ Support proximity. For me, that included friends, family, mentors, ME/C offices, research facilities (i.e., UTK Body Farm), and GOOD FOOD. ⚡️ No mandatory in-person lecture attendance. When you get in the weeds, being able to watch online can be huge for maximizing your time and supporting mental health! ⚡️ Forensic faculty. @lmudcom has a forensic pathologist as the Chair of Pathology and a forensic anthropologist as the Vice Chair of Anatomy— meaning forensics was discussed when addressing the practical aspects of the curriculum. This also helped me easily garner support for conferences, research, and student organizations. ⚡️ Rotation flexibility. Clinical rotations are stressful, so having a school that is responsive, collaborative with students, and either affiliated with an ME/C office or excited about setting up new sites makes all the difference! ⚡️ Pathology student organizations. Funding and support from Student Services made it possible to establish @lmudcom_pathsig and set up really cool experiences for students with similar specialty interests— workshops, guest lectures, pathology roadtrips, you name it. No PathSIG at your school? No problem! Check out @path_sig for more information on how to start one. ✨ #path2path #forensicpathology #forensicmedicine #4n6 #medicalschooladmissions #medicalschool #medicalstudent #medspiration

Pathology is boring, they say 🤦🏼‍♀️ But honestly? I’m 4 months in pathology and I can say I don’t mind spending my days looking through my microscope, sipping tea, with good music in the background. Add a flexible schedule, solid sleep, and a healthy daily routine—and it feels like I’ve cracked the code for balance as a doctor.🌿 Didn’t think it was possible, but here I am ✨ What’s one thing you value most in your work-life balance? #doctor #reels #reelsinstagram #pathology #work #dream #lifestyle 📽️: @dariya_korenblit

Pathology is in limelight and booming speciality especially when there is steady rise in cancer all over the world🙌🏼 Having done MD pathology in 🇮🇳, I could easily see a lot of difference compared to Pathology in USA🇺🇸 1. There is a good work-life balance in USA. 2.Options after Pathology residency is huge!! ✅You can do one or two fellowship and practice that particular subspecialty! Example: breast and gynae pathology, surgical pathology, hematopathology, cytopathology. ✅You can become a medical examiner (forensics) after doing forensic pathology ✅You can practice either AP or CP whichever you want!! 3.The technology is so good especially with digital pathology, one can sign out from any corner of the world!! If you are interested to become a Pathologist, I would say go for it 💯
