Perimenopause doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Changes in sleep, mood, energy, body composition and anxiety matter. They’re signals your body is trying to communicate. This is the decade where muscle loss, bone loss and metabolic changes accelerate. Strength training becomes non-negotiable. Muscle protects your bones, metabolism, hormones and independence. Perimenopause is not the time to restrict. Nourish your body properly. Protein, fibre and healthy fats support blood sugar, hormones and energy. Your heart health matters. Keep your cardio. Choose movement that gets your heart rate up, you enjoy, can recover from and repeat. Not extremes that leave you exhausted. Rest and recovery matter. Poor sleep and chronic stress raise cortisol and slow progress. Protect your sleep like it’s medicine. Walk daily. Build routines you can sustain. Consistency beats perfection every time. At 55, post-menopause, I feel stronger and more grounded than I did in my 40s. Perimenopause wasn’t decline. It was the invitation to take my health seriously.
